Harrogate, TN - The 9th annual Lincoln Awards were held Sunday in Tex Turner Arena in Harrogate. The Lincoln Awards highlight the achievements, accomplishments, and accolades of Lincoln Memorial student-athletes, teams, and coaches throughout the season.
The night began with a bang as campus-favorite FAR
Joe Gill took the stage for the ceremony's introduction. Assistant Athletic Director for Communications / Director of Sports Media
Adam Haley then introduced the SAAC Executive Board. The SAAC Executive Board presented the faculty and staff appreciation awards before Gill once again took the stage to introduce the newly minted SAAC Executive Board. Haley then retook the stage, highlighting noteworthy statistics from all sports programs for the season, highlighting multiple school and conference records that were broken throughout the season(s). The Lincoln Memorial cheer team was then recognized for its record-breaking performance this season, which saw the cheer program reach brand new heights. Haley then introduced Graduate Assistant and field hockey player
Haley White, who is also on the SAAC Board, as well as serving as an at-large representative on the NCAA DII National SAAC committee. White spoke on the field hockey team and their accomplishments throughout the season prior to turning the microphone over to Gill, who introduced Assistant Athletic Director
Bobby Lockhart to announce the first award of the evening. Lockhart announced the men's Play of the Year, awarded to men's wrestling's Kade Millsaps, women's Freshman of the Year, awarded to women's cross country's Jacie Begley, and men's Freshman of the Year, awarded to men's tennis' Kai Miyatake, prior to the first "Splitters got Talent" segment of the evening, which featured Kaylee and Kylie Alvis showcasing their dancing talent.
Gill retook the stage to announce the winners of the Female Newcomer of the Year award, given to softball's Halle Grace Patton, Male Newcomer of the Year award, awarded to baseball's Brooks Hagedorn, and the International Student-Athlete Recognition. Gill called Senior Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services and Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator
Dr. Ahleasha McNeal to the stage for the first organized game of the evening, "finish the song lyrics". Following the game, Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Athlete Wellness Donny Grigsby announced the Female Breakthrough Athlete of the Year Award, given to women's soccer's Ally Bevins, Male Breakthrough Athlete of the Year, awarded to men's volleyball's Eliel Salva-Torress, and Comeback Athlete of the Year, given to men's volleyball's John Luers. Gill then retook the stage for the second segment of "Splitters got Talent" as a pair of student-athletes performed an awesome magic act. Dr. McNeal retook the podium to announce the women's Performance of the Year, awarded to women's lacrosse's Josie Tinnerello, and the male Performance of the Year, awarded to baseball's Kasten Harvey. Men's basketball manager Steven Long then took the stage, announcing his return to Lincoln Memorial for another season, stating "I am the best manager in the country!" to which he received a raucous applause. Long then presented the Student-Manager recognition before Gill and Dr. McNeal retook the stage for another game.
Following the game of "password" Athletic Director Travis Muncy took the stage, announcing the winners of Women's Coach of the Year, awarded to women's soccer's Tasha Flynn, Men's Coach of the Year, awarded to men's golf's Brad Robinson, Female Athlete of the Year, awarded to women's track and field's Sterling Webb, and Men's Athlete of the Year, awarded to men's golf's George Durkan. Gill retook the stage for the third segment of "Splitters got Talent," seeing men's cross country runner Marig Engelbrecht perform an acoustic gospel song. Engelbrecht played and sang beautifully, moving the crowd. Graduate Assistant
Daven West then took the podium to announce the All-Splitter Team Awards before Gill and Dr. McNeal kicked off the final game of the evening. The tandem then presented the Academic Recognition. Gill then presented the B. Frank Turner Awards, awarded to women's lacrosse's Delaney Duck and baseball's Kasten Harvey. Muncy followed by presenting the Chris Carr Award, given to men's track and field's Nathan McBride for his unyielding commitment to the university. The fourth and final segment of "Splitters got Talent" was performed by Alex Giurea before Lockhart and Haley retook the stage to acknowledge student workers and production crews. Muncy and Dr. McNeal made their way back to the stage to present the Game of the Year award, given to the field hockey program for its win over Wingate during the season. Haley then retook the stage to announce the winner of the "Stronger Together" award, given to women's soccer. Student-athletes in attendance then voted on their favorite act of the night for "Splitters got Talent" before Muncy retook the podium to announce the winners of the Women's Team of the Year award, given to women's soccer, and the Men's Team of the Year award, awarded to men's golf. Muncy and Dr. McNeal then gave closing remarks, highlighting once again the incredible achievements of the Lincoln Memorial Athletics programs over the course of the year and manifesting continued success for the years to come, bringing a close to the 9th Annual Lincoln Awards.
