Harrogate, TN -- Lincoln Memorial University has long stood as a beacon of education, hope, and opportunity for the region. Ruth Ivey, a former multi-sport student-athlete from 1992-1995, took the Lincoln Memorial spirit beyond the confines of campus and continues to give back to the region through her work with Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. Ivey serves as the Food Rescue Manager and has since 2018. Prior to her role as the Food Rescue Manager, Ivey served in Agency Relations for 14 years, giving her nearly 21 years with Second Harvest, giving back to the region. After graduating from Campbell County High School, Ivey found her way to Walter State Community College from 1989-1991 before inevitably finding her way to Lincoln Memorial University from 92-95 where she played basketball, softball, and tennis, with basketball being her primary sport. Ivey spoke on her responsibilities with Second Harvest while highlighting her time as a Railsplitter. "I fell in love with Second Harvest long ago," she said. "I love my job, I love the work we do. I manage pick-ups, distribution centers, work with local farmers, organize donations, drivers, trucks, and much more." When asked about her time at LMU and the lessons she takes with her, Ivey said, "I think back on my time at LMU very fondly. I loved playing sports there. I walked away from LMU with a wonderful education. While there, I also learned a lot about developing relationships -- how to develop them and how important they are. I will always be thankful for my time at LMU and the lessons I learned there." Ivey continues to embody the "Railsplitter spirit" by giving back to her community and her region, setting a good example for all of us.
