Game Recap: Field Hockey | | John Dunn

Field hockey falls to Southern New Hampshire on the road

Manchester, NH - Two days after defeating American International on the road, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was back in action on Saturday against the Southern New Hampshire Penmen in Manchester, NH. It was the first time in program history the two teams had met. Southern New Hampshire entered the contest 1-2 on the season, with losses to the top two ranked teams in division II field hockey. Lincoln Memorial entered the contest with a 2-1 record, with its lone loss coming at the hands of division I opponent, Saint Louis.

Saturday's game got off to a sluggish start as both teams sputtered out of the gate. The first quarter narrowly belonged to the home standing Penmen. However, the second quarter made the game for Southern New Hampshire. Out-shooting Lincoln Memorial 11-1 in the second period, the Penmen were able to take a 3-0 lead into the half. The Second half was much quieter than the first, due to the Railsplitters goalkeeper, Cayla Wiggins, becoming an immovable object, unmet by an unstoppable force. Although Southern New Hampshire added three goals throughout the contest, Wiggins was electric, tallying 16 saves on 19 shots to earn an 84% save percentage. The Penmen held on to win 3-0 , moving both teams to 2-2 on the season.

Lincoln Memorial plays a familiar foe on Sep. 16, traveling to Greenwood, SC for a match up with the Lander Bearcats, which is set to begin at 7 PM.
