Harrogate, TN – In the final home dual of his career, Porter Finstad went a perfect 2-0 for the Lincoln Memorial University Men's Wrestling team, as the Railsplitters fell to Lander and Bluefield State.
In the opener against Lander, Finstad kept the senior-day celebration rolling, with a Fall win in the 141-pound weight class. Finstad turned a quick takedown of his opponent into a pin in the first round, eventually taking the bout 1:58 into the first period of action, giving LMU six team points in a 47-12 defeat.
The second bout of the day started stronger for the Splitters, as Blake Allen earned his first collegiate win out of the 133-pound division. Allen turned starting the second period on bottom into key points, getting a reversal just 10 seconds into the period, and riding out the rest of the set to earn a 2-0 Decision win.
Finstad's night of recognition was capped with a bow in the 141-pound division, as a takedown in each of the first two periods set the tone for the match, with an escape point from the start of the second period gave him the eventual edge, riding out a win via Fall in 5:38 of wrestling.
Jose Gutierrez would net the Railsplitters their final six points of the evening, with a takedown turning into a four-point near-fall in the second period to secure a 10-3 decision victory for LMU in the 149-pound weight class, as LMU would drop the second bout 36-18.
The Railsplitters will take the weekend to rest before continuing conference play against Montevallo on Wednesday, January 28th in Bristol, Tennessee.
