Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Against #6 Catawba

Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial men's soccer falls to the #6 Catawba College Catawba Indians Wednesday evening 1-2.

There was not much action in the first ten minutes as only one shot was taken combined from both teams, but the teams battled for possession in their attacking thirds.

Hays Adams had the first look for the Railsplitters in the 15th minute as his shot went right over the crossbar.

Adams continued to pressure the Catawba backline as he gave Lincoln Memorial the 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, as a Catawba mis pass handed the ball right to Adams to slip the ball past the Catawba Indian goalkeeper.

Catawba's first close chance at goal came in the 27th minute, but was saved by Daniel Benedek Miklosi.

With minimal shots being taken throughout the last 20 minutes, the team goes into halftime with the game tied at 1-1.

The second half started much like the first, with not many shots being taken with Lincoln Memorial taking three and Catawba only getting one shot off in the opening 15 minutes.

The Catawba Indians got their first lead of the day in the 63rd minute as Payton scored off a Miranda assist.

The Railsplitters continued to fight for the next 15 minutes, as Filipe Ribeiro and Enrique Martin recorded shots on frame.

In the 80th minute, a Catawba Indian nearly extended their lead with a one on one with Miklosi, but he saves it to keep the margin to one goal.

With the Railsplitters not able to get the ball in the back of the net in the final ten minutes, LMU falls to #6 Catawba 1-2.

Adams tallied the lone goal of the night for the Railsplitters, while Martin led the team with four shots. Benedek Miklosi played 90 minutes in goal and recorded five saves.

As a team, Lincoln Memorial took 13 shots, with six being on frame, and registered five saves and six corner kicks.

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial drops to 6-4-3 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play and Catawba improves to 10-0-2 overall and 6-0-1 in conference play.

The team will stay at home for Senior Day on Saturday, October 24th as they face Anderson at 7:00 pm.
