Harrogate, TN – The Lincoln Memorial Women's Tennis team fought back against Young Harris on Saturday night to keep their perfect start to the season alive, as the Railsplitters came back from trailing the Mountain Lions to winning 4-3.
The Splitters got a win in the second doubles draw, as Adriana Pellizzari and Natalia Reimer handled their opponents to the tune of 6-1, as the pair jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the draw before finishing off the win.
LMU earned their first win of the day in singles play thanks to Pellizzari, who took a 6-3 win in the first set of the third singles before her opponent took the second set, forcing a crucial third set. The third started well for Young Harris, as Pellizzari fell into a 4-1 hole, but was roared back with five unanswered points, eventually tying and winning the third set 6-4.
The fourth singles pairing saw a back-and-forth affair for Reimer, who after taking the first set 6-1 found herself in a 1-4 deficit in the second set. Reimer clawed back, and after going down 5-2 drew the match even at 5-5, before forcing the tie breaking point, as her opponent forced a third set. Reimer would dominate the third set, winning 6-1 and giving LMU a crucial singles point.
In the fifth singles draw, it was all Railsplitters, as Alexandra Ortiz shut her opponent down for a straight sets victory. Ortiz would jump out to a 3-1 win in each set, going to 3-2 in the first set before running away with the set to win 6-2 before taking another 6-2 win in the second set.
After a grueling first set of the sixth singles draw, which saw her fall behind 4-3 and then 5-4, Mia Rodriguez battled back to draw the set at five all before coming away with the 7-6 set one win. Rodriguez cruised to a sweep with a 6-0 win in the second set.
The Splitters look to continue their perfect start, squaring off against Belmont Abbey next Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at home.
