Monroe, N.C. - The No. 17 Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters Men's Tennis team dropped their first conference game of the season on the road today, falling to Wingate 4-1 in Monroe, North Carolina.
The loss moves the Splitters to 8-2 and 3-1 in the South Atlantic Conference, as the Railsplitters drop just their second road contest of the season.
The Splitters started the day by taking the double point yet again, as the two and three doubles teams pulled out wins over the Bulldogs. From the second position, Ethan Hirons and Radu Florea continued their hot streak, moving to 8-1 this season with a commanding 6-3 win that started with a comeback. After falling behind the Bulldogs 2-1, the pair from LMU would outscore their opponents 5-1 to wrap up the win and even the doubles bracket.
In the third doubles set, Mathis Amsellem and Alexandru Rares Giurea picked up their second win as a pair this season, translating an early 3-1 lead over the Wingate pairing into a key 6-4 win for Lincoln Memorial, giving the Railsplitters the 1-0 team lead going into singles competition.
Lincoln Memorial would take four sets in singles play in the loss, as Rares Giurea, Florea, and Kai Miyatake each claimed a win over their opponents.
The Railsplitters return home on Tuesday for a non-conference match up against Purdue Northwest at 2:00 p.m.
