Harrogate, TN – In their final home match of the fall season, the Lincoln Memorial University Men's Tennis team hosted their second weekend of the LMU Men's Hidden Duals, taking on Tusculum and King Universities.
The day opened with doubles play, as the Railsplitters took home a win over Tusculum thanks to Victor Bourguignon and Malcolm Bergelin, who ran away with a 6-1 victory in the second doubles match.
Against King, it was a clean doubles-sweep for the Splitters, as LMU went 6-0 vs the Tornado. In the first doubles match, Bourguignon and Bergelin finished their perfect day as a pair with a close 6-4 win. The pairs win would be the closest of the day between the Railsplitters and King.
In the second doubles set, Radu Florea and Danilo Gruic ran away early with a 6-1 win. Mathis Amsellem and Jakub Hrášek would combine with Lucas Corradi and Alexis Morin to win 6-2 over King each, with Amsellem and Hrasek competing in the third doubles pool while the duo of Corradi/Morin worked from the fourth position.
Patricio Garcia and Ciprian Florincas made a statement from the fifth position, shutting out the Tornado 6-0 for the win. Florincas would follow-up by pairing with Houston Fitzgerald to the same result, ending the day with a 6-0 sweep in the last position.
On the singles court, the Splitters earned wins in eight of 10 individual matchups on the afternoon. The day started with Florea battling an opponent from Tusculum to a close 8-6 win, while Hrasek earned an 8-4 win from the second position.
Florincas dominated his opponent from King in the third position, securing an 8-2 victory. Corradi would do much of the same in the fifth slot, this time not allowing a single point to King in an 8-0 victory.
Gruic helped keep the good times rolling for LMU, fighting for an 8-5 win in the sixth position against his Tusculum opponent, while Morin would earn the final win over the Pioneers from the eighth position 8-3.
Against King in the seventh slot, Bergelin orchestrated a close fight, holding to an 8-4 fight against the Tornado. Garcia and Fitzgeralnd rounded out the afternoon for the Railsplitters, holding onto 8-0 and 8-3 wins respectively from the ninth and 10th singles positions.
Lincoln Memorial heads on the road for the first time this fall over the weekend, competing in the Palmetto Invitational hosted in Sumter, South Carolina starting on Friday.
