Entering her seventh full season as Head Coach of the Lincoln Memorial University cheer and dance squads, Marcia Yeary Hembree has revitalized each program since taking over the helm of the teams near the end of the 2008-09 basketball season. Both teams have the largest rosters since Marcia began coaching the Splitters Spirit squads.
Since taking over as coach, the LMU cheerleaders and dance team have volunteered to work many events in the local community such as Relay for Life, the annual ROHO Shopping Spree for needy children throughout the tri-state area, Dolly Parton Imagination Library kickoff, the Read Across America program, Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Lincoln Memorial University, local nursing home visits, Halloween events, volunteering for the J. Frank White Academy in addition to performing at all of the University’s home basketball games.
They also assist with campus events such as moving the students into their dorms, LMU alumni events including their performance at LMU night at Smokies Baseball game, Halloween Havoc, new students’ luncheon and Homecoming festivities.
Before taking over as Lincoln Memorial University’s cheer and dance coach, Marcia was the cheer coach at her alma mater, Middlesboro High School in Middlesboro, Kentucky for 10 years and at East Tennessee State University prior to that.
While attending college at Lincoln Memorial University, she was a member of the University’s cheerleading squad. Prior to LMU, she cheered at Middlesboro where she and the squad competed in the Kentucky High School State Cheerleading Competition. In addition to her duties as cheer and dance coach at Lincoln Memorial University. Marcia serves as financial aid officer and work-study coordinator. She and her son Tipton reside in Middlesboro
