Enrique Fernandez was born in Houston, Texas, to an Argentinian father, Jose Manuel Fernandez, and a Honduran mother, Leticia de Fernandez. He attended Crosby High School in Crosby, Texas, where he was a varsity letterman on the men's soccer team for four years, from 2013 to 2017. He served as team captain during his junior and senior years, and was named 2nd team all-district in his junior year.
In 2017, Enrique signed to play at Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas, an NJCAA Division I program. However, he was granted a medical redshirt that year. He transferred to Monroe College in the Bronx, New York, in 2019, where he played for the NJCAA Division III soccer team. He played in nine games that fall, starting three of them. He graduated with an associate's degree in Sports Management in December 2019.
During the summers of 2018 and 2019, Enrique played for Houston FC in the UPSL league, and in the summer and fall of 2020, he played for Katy FC in the NSL league. In the fall of 2021, he transferred to Ohio Valley University in Parkersburg, West Virginia, but the school shut down shortly after. Following the closure, he played in the spring of 2022 at Oklahoma Christian University, an NCAA Division II program in Edmond, Oklahoma. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a minor in Sports Management, from Oklahoma Christian University.
Enrique continued his soccer career at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, competing in the NAIA during the 2022 and 2023 fall seasons. He played in 17 games and started two of them. He was recognized as a River States Academic Athlete in the fall of 2023 and was also named a Chi Alpha National Scholar Athlete that same semester. In the spring of 2024, Enrique was selected as one of the team captains. He graduated with an MBA from Point Park University in the spring of 2024.
In addition to his playing career, Enrique coached at COE Club in Edmond, Oklahoma, in 2022. He earned his Goalkeeping Diploma Level 1 from the NCSAA in 2024. In the summer of 2024, he worked alongside coaches from La Masia in the Barca Academy program throughout the Midwest. Enrique is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration.
