Hugo Retortillo

Hugo Retortillo is in his first year as a graduate assistant for the Lincoln Memorial University men's and women's tennis programs after serving as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater Midway University during the 2019-20 academic year. Retortillo enters his second season on staff in 2021-22.

In his first season, Retortillo helped the men's team improve to 7-10 (6-6 SAC) and earn the sixth seed in the 2021 South Atlantic Conference postseason tournament, while the women finished 6-7 (5-4 SAC) to grab the eighth seed in their respective postseason. Both teams put up an excellent fight in their first-round losses as each defeat came to the eventual tournament champion (Tusculum men, Wingate women).

A native of Leon, Spain, Retortillo enjoyed a successful collegiate playing career at NAIA Midway University out of the Mid-South Conference where he was a staple in the starting lineup in both singles and doubles. Prior to transferring to Midway, Retortillo played at both NJCAA Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas, and NAIA member University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

Retortillo brings a wealth of tennis knowledge to Harrogate and has experience working in professional tennis. He has been a linesman for both WTA Tour and ATP Challenger Tour events.

A 2019 graduate of Midway, Retortillo received his bachelor's degree in business administration and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration (MPA).
