HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Railsplitters (5-3-2, 2-2-2 SAC) make a quick turnaround and hit the road to Charlotte, N.C. for a Saturday evening South Atlantic Conference clash with the Queens Royal (3-8, 3-3 SAC). First kick between Lincoln Memorial and Queens is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. under the lights at Mario Diehl Park.
Â
The Railsplitters take to the field Saturday less than 48 hours after the conclusion of a grueling double overtime battle with Carson-Newman, which was pushed back to Thursday due to unplayable field conditions in Jefferson City, Tenn. Lincoln Memorial and Carson-Newman traded goals on two different occasions before playing out the 110-minute contest in a 2-2 draw.
Â
LMU has produced by far the most offensive opportunities of any South Atlantic Conference unit, firing off 201 total shots and an average of 20.1 shots per contest. No other team has accounted for more than 164 total attempts or 16.4 shots per contest. The Railsplitters' 72 shots on goal are also the most in the league this season, one better than Carson-Newman's 71 shots on target.
Â
After hitting somewhat of a lull in goals scored with only two combined in a three-match stretch from September 24-October 1, the Railsplitters have tallied five in their last two appearances on the pitch.
Â
The defending South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament champions, the Queens Royals have not been able to equal last season's success thus far. Queens dropped its first five matches before breaking through with wins over Brevard and Anderson. Since that brief flourish, the Royals have lost three of their last four appearances, with a 2-1 win over Newberry standing as the lone triumph over that stretch.
Â
Unlike the Railsplitters, the Royals have not be able to consistently produce goal-scoring opportunities, ranking 10th in the SAC in shots (117) and shots on goal (51) while accounting for the second-lowest number of shots per game (10.6). Queens has scored 15 goals this season and all 15 of those strikes have been assisted, giving the Royals the third-most assists among league opponents.
Â
After the departure of three of its top five goal scorers and an injury to junior striker Erick Suarez, who racked up 12 goals in 2013, Queens has looked for offensive production from a committee of players. Ten different Royals have contributed at least one goal this season, led by freshman Philip Makhlouf's five goals. Makhlouf has reached that mark despite firing only eight total shots on goal. Sophomore Ryan Ejezie leads the team with 33 shots while Marc-Kevin Schwenk has accumulated 22 attempts. That duo has scored a goal apiece and combined for 11 assists. Schwenk leads the South Atlantic Conference with seven assists. Sophomore Isaac Walker is the only other Royal with multiple goals as he has collected two.
Â
Senior Montrell Morgan has spent all 1,024:52 minutes in net for the Royals, allowing 21 goals while posting 51 saves over that span. Morgan's 51 saves are the second-most in the SAC, but he currently holds a 1.84 goals against average and a .708 save percentage.
Â
The Railsplitters have only defeated the Royals once in five tries. The Royals knocked off the Railsplitters 2-0 on October 12, 2013 in the first regular season meeting between the two programs as SAC foes before ending LMU's year with a 4-1 win in the semifinals of the 2013 SAC Championship. The Railsplitters defeated Queens the last time they dueled in Charlotte, winning 4-2 in 2012.
Â
Lincoln Memorial and Queens are scheduled to duke it out on Saturday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C.
