Kristen Cook collects game-winning score; Lady Railsplitters top Trojans 1-0 on Senior Day

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Senior Kristen Cook (Little Rock, Ark.) struck the winning blow as the Lady Railsplitters (8-2-1, 6-1-1 SAC) topped the Anderson Trojans (4-8-1, 2-5-1 SAC) 1-0 Saturday at the LMU Soccer Complex. Since suffering a 1-0 setback to Coker on September 13, Lincoln Memorial has gone eight straight appearances without a loss.

On an afternoon in which Lincoln Memorial honored its senior class, it was only fitting that senior right full back Kristen Cook would supply the game-winning strike, which came in the 82nd minute. The Little Rock, Ark. native collected a deflection in the box and snuck a bending shot into the left corner of the net to propel the Lady Railsplitters to victory.

Saturday's strike marked the second goal of the redshirt-senior's career and the first of 2014 as Cook netted her only other career goal in 2012 against Brevard.

Junior netminder Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) held the Trojans in check on the afternoon as she accounted for four of the team's five saves in 90 minutes of action, posting her sixth shutout of the season. Since allowing three goals against Carson-Newman two weeks ago, the Keller, Texas native has recorded back-to-back shutouts while racking up six saves during that span.

Nine different players accumulated shots for the Lady Railsplitters with senior Nicole McKinney (Ooltewah, Tenn.) leading the way with four shots, one of which was turned away by Anderson goalkeeper Sadie Lancaster, who accounted for four saves in the match. In addition to McKinney, senior Fernanda Miaci (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil) collected three shots, one of which found its mark, while Cook, Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario), Maddy Nagy (Rockledge, Fla.), Kadie Soall (Tecumseh, Ontario) and Olivia Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.) each accounted for two shots apiece.

The Trojans tallied 11 shots on the afternoon, matching Lincoln Memorial with five shots on goal as Faith Johannes paced Anderson's attack with five shots, one of which was turned away by Stephens.

With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 4-1-1 all-time in head-to-head encounters with the Trojans and avenges a 1-0 loss in Anderson, S.C. last season.

The match featured one penalty as Anderson's Faith Johannes was flagged for a yellow card in the 31st minute.

The Lady Railsplitters celebrated Senior Day festivities during halftime of Saturday's match. Along with Kristen Cook, Samantha Hilliard (Sterling Heights, Mich.), Carly Cepelak (Tampa, Fla.), Nicole McKinney, Fernanda Miaci, Brittany Jenkins (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Rachael Vienneau (Woodstock, Ga.) were honored.

The Lady Railsplitters return to action Wednesday, October 22 as they prepare to host in-state rival Tusculum for the final home match of the 2014 season with first kick scheduled for 1 p.m. from the LMU Soccer Complex.
