Lady Railsplitters fall for first time since September 13; suffer 3-2 setback to Trevecca Nazarene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Despite mustering an 18-13 shot disparity including 13 shots on goal, the Lady Railsplitters (9-3-2) were unable to overcome two early Trevecca Nazerene (11-4-2) goals Tuesday evening in a 3-2 loss at the Trojan Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn. Tuesday's result snapped LMU's streak of 10 consecutive contests without a loss, which dated all the way back to September 13.

Trevecca Nazerene opened the scoring in the ninth minute as Diana Corzine fired a shot past Lincoln Memorial goalkeeper Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) Corzine was put into scoring position following a double assist from Isabella Ovideo and Mandy Nuckols. The Trojans put another point on the board in the 24th minute as Sabrina Garrido pitched it in off of another double assist from Nuckols and Lauren Winters, staking TNU to an early 2-0 edge.

Junior Olivia Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.) narrowed that gap with just over a minute remaining in the first half as she collected a pass from junior Lauren Dusold (Spirit Lake, Iowa) and recorded her second goal of the season. The assist was Dusold's first point in her three-year stint with the Blue and Gray.

The Trojans increased their lead back to two goals in the 75th minute as Brooke Gann netted the home unit's third strike of the contest.

Lincoln Memorial inched back to within one in the 82nd minute as sophomore Marissa Kiernan (Port St. Lucie, Fla) sent a pass to senior Fernanda Miaci (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil), who promptly chipped the ball over the head of Trojan goalkeeper Liz Denton for her eighth goal of the season.

TNU freshman netminder Liz Denton was put to the test all evening as she was called into action on nine separate occasions. Denton allowed two goals and turned away seven shots as her team managed to account for four additional saves on Lady Railsplitter scoring tries.

Eight different Lady Railsplitters accumulated shots on Tuesday as Miaci led the way with six shots, four shots on goal and one of LMU's two goals. Junior Kadie Soall (Tecumseh, Ontario) racked up three attempts with one shot finding its mark. In addition to Miaci and Soall, juniors Maddy Nagy (Rockledge, Fla.) and Thompson, along with Kiernan, each contributed two shot attempts apiece, as one of Thompson's looks led to LMU's only other goal of the match.

Lincoln Memorial returns to the pitch on Saturday, November 1, traveling to Wingate, N.C. to square off against the Wingate Bulldogs in the final regular season contest of the 2014 campaign. The action is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. from WU Soccer Complex.
