HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Railsplitters (4-3-1, 1-2-1 SAC) complete a three-match home stand and look to end the program's longest losing streak in over a decade by engaging the Brevard Tornados (3-6-1, 1-3 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday at the LMU Soccer Complex. Lincoln Memorial and Brevard are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. first kick in Harrogate, Tenn.
Â
Since opening the season with four straight wins, their first 4-0 start since the 2010 season, the Railsplitters have finished with four consecutive winless results, a tie with Newberry and losses to Mars Hill, Lenoir-Rhyne and Lees-McRae most recently. A first-half penalty doomed the Railsplitters in Wednesday's non-conference loss to the Bobcats as Lees-McRae's James Smith finished off a PK in the 27th minute to account for all of the scoring. Prior to falling in that match, the Railsplitters had not dropped three consecutive matches since the onset of the 2003 campaign.
Â
Consistent with the story of late, the Railsplitters posted a 20-10 advantage on shot attempts with a 7-5 shots on goal disparity against the Bobcats despite failing to breakthrough for a goal. In its past four matches, LMU has outshot its opponents by a combined 97-51 mark with only four goals to speak of during that stretch. Lincoln Memorial leads the South Atlantic Conference in total shots (150) and shots per game (18.8) this season but ranks only sixth in the league in shots on goal (50).
Â
After scoring four goals through his first three matches, a nagging injury has limited junior striker
Leonardo da Silva (Itajuba, Brazil) to one goal and four shots in his last five appearances on the pitch. He continues to rank second in the SAC in goals scored with five while his 19 shot attempts is the third-most by a Railsplitter. Junior
Yinka Lawal (Bromley, England) now leads the Railsplitters in shots with 22, but he is still looking for his first goal as a member of the Blue and Gray. Senior
Yuri Passos (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has accumulated a goal and two assists with 21 shot attempts.
Â
The Railsplitters remain the stingiest defensive unit in the South Atlantic Conference, leading the league in goals against (8) and goals against average (0.96). Lincoln Memorial is one of only two teams that have allowed less than 10 goals this season and they are the only program boasting a goals against average below one. The Railsplitters have struggled on that side of the pitch during this current lull as they have relinquished seven scores in the past four matches, a 1.75 goals against average that would rank seventh in the SAC.
Â
Brevard is allotted only a day of rest before voyaging to Harrogate, Tenn. as the Tornados hosted Newberry Thursday afternoon. Brevard snapped its four-match losing skid in that contest with a 1-0 triumph over the visiting Wolves to earn their first SAC victory.
Â
Despite boasting an offensive front that has produced 11 goals and 110 shots, the Tornados have allowed a league-worst 24 goals and an average of 2.35 per contest. In its previous four matches before Thursday's victory, Brevard had been outscored by a 16-1 margin which included back-to-back 5-0 losses to Queens and Division I opponent Winthrop. The Tornados are 0-4 on the road this season.
Â
Freshmen Sergi Monso and Robert Ferrer lead the Tornado attack as Monso has accounted for three goals, one assist and 21 shots attempts while Ferrer has chipped in a pair of goals and assists with 13 shots. Andrew Gallowitch and Jesse Omezi have contributed two goals apiece.
Â
In net, the Railsplitters will see sophomore keeper Heath Turner, who has started all ten matches for the Tornados in 2014. Turner has allowed 19 goals with 45 saves (second-most in the SAC) in 810 minutes of action. Turner's .703 save percentage ranks eighth in the league while his 19 goals against are the most by any conference keeper.
Â
The Railsplitters have outscored the Tornados 17-2 during a current five-match winning streak in the series. Brevard has not beaten Lincoln Memorial since nabbing a 2-1 overtime victory back on October 24, 2008. Last season, the Railsplitters escaped Brevard, N.C. with a narrow 1-0 win.
Â
First kick in Saturday's bout between Lincoln Memorial and Brevard is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the LMU Soccer Complex. The LMU Sports Network will be providing a free, live video broadcast of the match.
