Women's Basketball Preview: Lincoln Memorial vs. Indianapolis - Saturday, December 20

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- For the first time in nearly a month, the Lady Railsplitters (7-3) venture outside of the friendly confines of Tex Turner Arena, traveling to the heart of the Hoosier State on Saturday, December 20 for a nonconference contest against the Indianapolis Greyhounds (3-5). Tip-off between Lincoln Memorial and UIndy is set for 2 p.m. at Nicoson Hall.

The Lady Railsplitters look to close out the 2014 portion of the schedule on a high note after hitting their lowest point of the season on Wednesday night in a 61-41 loss to the King Tornado in Harrogate, Tenn. It was the first time the Lady Railsplitters have scored 41 points or fewer since the 2012-13 campaign, a 46-41 loss to West Florida on November 23. LMU finished with a season-low 29.6 shooting percentage while turning the ball over 27 times. The loss denied LMU its first five-game winning streak in eight seasons.

LMU's opponent, Indianapolis, is coming off of an eerily similar performance in a 63-42 loss at 12th-ranked Rollins on Tuesday, as the Greyhounds shot 29.1 percent, went 8-for-33 from three-point range and turned the ball over 17 times. UIndy has dropped three of its last four games heading into Saturday's tilt, but, unlike the Lady Railsplitters, the Greyhounds' have spent the past two weeks on the road.

The Greyhounds are averaging nearly 20 points less per game then they did during the 2013-14 campaign, when they finished 23-9, scored 77.8 points per game and shot the rock at a 47 percent clip. This season, UIndy is scoring 58.8 point s per on 40.7 percent shooting. Rebounding and turnovers have plagued the Greyhounds all season, as opponents are outrebounding UIndy by nearly five boards a game while they've turned it over almost 18 times per appearance.

Kelly Walter and Princess German lead the Greyhounds with 15.8 and 14.4 points per game, respectively. Walter has knocked down a team-leading 21 three-pointers, while German leads UIndy with 12 steals. Nicole Anderson is logging 11.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per, while Carly Lythjohan is contributing a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game.

The Lady Railsplitters and Greyhounds have two prior meetings, and neither of those games has gone well for the Blue and Gray. LMU dropped a 69-46 decision last season at Tex Turner Arena, which was the two teams' first head-to-head collision since the Greyhounds captured an 84-50 victory in Indianapolis during the 2008-09 campaign.

Including Wednesday's loss to King, the Lady Railsplitters are 4-6 on the week before Christmas since the start of the 2007-08 season.

In the final nonconference tune-up, the Lady Railsplitters hope to see a couple of slumping players get back on track. Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.) is just 7-for-23 from the field in her last three appearances. She logged 12 points in the win over Coker, but scored just three points against Newberry and five versus the Tornado. Aisjah Lee (Louisville, Ky.) reached double-figures in her first three games of the year, but she has failed to do so since that opening stretch. After collecting double-digit points in two-straight games, Katrina Ottesen (Chandler, Az.) has not tallied more than nine points in a game in her last three outings.

It will be the Lady Railsplitters' first trip to Indiana since November 24, 2009, which resulted in an 86-78 loss at Southern Indiana.

The Lady Railsplitters and Greyhounds are set to get underway at 2 p.m. in Indianapolis, Indiana. Live stats and a video broadcast will be available via the UIndy Sports Information Department, while fans can listen along with Voice of the Railsplitters Rusty Peace at WLMU 91.3 the Gap.
