BREVARD, N.C. -- Freshman
Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) and sophomore
Brooke Fleeman (Nashville, Tenn.) combined for 23 kills as the Lady Railsplitters (8-6, 4-2 SAC) got back on track with a straight-set victory over the Brevard Tornados (8-5, 2-4 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday in Brevard, N.C. Lincoln Memorial improved to 18-0 in the all-time series against Brevard behind set scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-21.

The Lady Railsplitters ended their two-match losing skid with a productive and efficient attacking front, accumulating 42 kills and 15 errors for a .237 hitting percentage. LMU added 10 block assists and 71 digs in the winning effort.

Holland paced Lincoln Memorial with a match-leading 12 kills to go alongside 19 digs, recording her seventh double-double of the season. Fleeman, meanwhile, accounted for 11 kills on a .450 attack percentage, the second-highest effort of her sophomore campaign. Junior
Jazzy Oates (Franklin, Tenn.) posted seven kills and nine digs, finishing the match with a .462 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Abby Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) collected 36 assists, three kills and four digs, while
Casey Mense (Littleton, Colo.) led the Lady Railsplitters with 24 digs.

The Lady Railsplitters withstood a valiant comeback effort by the Tornados to take the opening set. Lincoln Memorial broke away from a 4-4 stalemate in that first stanza with a 9-3 rally, paced by six Lady Railsplitter kills, to assume a 13-7 advantage. A kill by
Jazzy Oates capped a 4-0 rally for the Lady Railsplitters in the ensuing passage of play, which extended the lead to 18-9. Three LMU ball-handling errors and three Rachel Ruble kills composed the larger portion of what would be a 9-2 run for the Tornados, cutting the deficit to 20-18. Three-consecutive Brevard miscues swung the momentum once again and propped the Lady Railsplitters back to a 23-18 edge before back-to-back kills from Fleeman ended the frame.

The Lady Railsplitters and Tornados battled back and forth through much of the second set as a Fleeman kill knotted the frame at 15-15 at the midway point. Three Brevard attack errors and kills by Fleeman and Oates paced a 5-0 LMU run that propped the Lady Railsplitters to a 20-15 edge. Savannah Cox connected on a kill to cut the Tornado deficit to 21-18 late, but the Lady Railsplitters took three of the next four points to all but wrap up the frame. Oates closed the 25-19 triumph with a kill.

Another late charge helped the Lady Railsplitters finish off the gritty Tornados, who held a 15-13 led in the third set following an LMU service error. A Brevard attack error tied the set at 17-17 before the Lady Railsplitters took the lead on another Holland put away. The match was tied on three separate occasions down the stretch, but Lincoln Memorial never relinquished its advantage. Holding a 22-21 edge, the Lady Railsplitters won three of the final four rallies, capped with a
Kendra Gephart (Morrow, Ohio) service ace, to take a 25-21 win in the match-clinching third set.

The Tornados finished hitting .135 in the match with 37 kills and 19 errors. Rachel Ruble carried the Tornado attack with 11 kills, while Savannah Cox and Hannah Elmore chipped in seven kills apiece. Erin Barr led the Tornados with 30 assists, while Aleksandra Vrvilo contributed a match-high 27 digs.

Saturday marked the Lady Railsplitters' first straight-set victory this season and the program's first since a 3-0 triumph over the Coker Cobras on November 1, 2013.

The Lady Railsplitters return to Mary Mars Gymnasium for the start of a three-match home stand on Friday, October 3, hosting the Wingate Bulldogs for a South Atlantic Conference showdown beginning at 7 p.m.
