Lady Railsplitters fall at Anderson, 2-0

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson Trojans (13-3, 7-3 SAC) scored early in the first half and tacked on another goal late in regulation to hand the Lady Railsplitters (4-8-3, 2-6-2 SAC) a 2-0 loss in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday in Anderson, S.C.

Lincoln Memorial was under pressure right from the start, as Anderson needed just 26 seconds to register their first shot attempt of the match. After launching a pair of corner kicks and maintaining possession in their attacking front throughout the early passage of play, the Trojans broke through and opened the scoring at the 16:58 mark when Megan Foster collected a deflection in the box from Mariana Poveda's blocked shot attempt and beat LMU's Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Lady Railsplitters recorded six shots in the half, but none of those looks landed on goal.

Lincoln Memorial threatened to score early in the second stanza when they put three shots on frame in the first 23 minutes. Maddy Nagy (Viera, Fla.) got the Lady Railsplitters' first shot on goal of the match in the 49th minute, while Josefin Hedstrom (Burtrask, Sweden) produced on-target shots in the 58th and 68th minutes, but Anderson's Abby Helm stopped all three of those shots.

The Trojans then put the match to bed late in the 86th minute when Alaina Gay sent a long through ball to Idoia Agirre, who added to her SAC-leading goal total with her 19th marker of the season to increase Anderson's lead to 2-0.

The Lady Railsplitters tallied their final shot attempt of the match in the 84th minute, but Nagy's look was blocked.

Shots were even at 13-13, but Anderson finished with a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Nagy paced the Lady Railsplitters with four shots and a shot on goal, while Hedstrom and Caroline Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) accounted for two shots apiece.

Stephens made four saves and conceded two goals to fall to 0-2 on the season, while Helm recorded three saves and posted her fourth clean slate of the season to improve to 12-3.

The Lady Railsplitters return to the LMU Soccer Complex for the regular-season finale on Saturday, October 31, when they host the Catawba Indians at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
