WINGATE, N.C. -- The Wingate Bulldogs (23-2, 17-1 SAC) tallied the fifth-highest single-match hitting percentage in South Atlantic Conference history to hand the Lady Railsplitters (12-12, 9-9 SAC) a 25-16, 25-11, 25-17 loss on Saturday afternoon at Cuddy Arena in Wingate, N.C. The loss ended a three-match winning streak for Lincoln Memorial while the nine-time defending SAC champion Bulldogs extended their winning streak to 16.

Wingate, meanwhile, produced 53 kills with just four errors for a .551 attack percentage. That was the highest hitting percentage ever allowed by an LMU team and the fifth-highest total ever for a SAC program. Presbyterian set the current league record by hitting .618 against Savannah State during the 1999 season. The Bulldogs paired that with 49 digs, six aces, 42 digs and 12 block assists.

A service error followed with four straight kills by the Bulldogs buried the Lady Railsplitters in a 12-5 hole in the opening set. Lincoln Memorial briefly fought back to trim the deficit to 14-9 with kills from Holland and Fleeman, but Wingate won five of the next six points to balloon the lead back to 19-10. A quick 3-0 spurt increased the Bulldogs' advantage to 22-11, and they later finished the set off with a kill from Tyler Smith. Wingate's 25-16 victory was fueled by 20 kills on a .613 attack percentage.
Â
Wingate continued to thrive offensively in the second set, collecting 17 kills on a .615 attack percentage. They opened up a 14-4 lead at one point in the frame before cruising to a 25-11 victory.
Â
One of the few Wingate attack errors kicked off the third set and put the Lady Railsplitters in front 1-0, but the Bulldogs would go on a 10-0 run from that juncture to build a commanding 10-1 lead. The deficit progressively grew from there over the ensuing passage of play, as an LMU attack error and a service ace made it 20-9. The Lady Railsplitters lopped a bit off of the Bulldogs' lead late, but an Oakley Attaway win clinched the set 25-17 and ended the hour-long match.
Â
Smith led all players with 12 kills while Shelley Stumpff posted 10 kills. That pair hit .706 and .450 in the match respectively. Katie Bludau hit .600 with nine kills while Attaway had eight kills. Â
The Lady Railsplitters return to action on Friday, November 6 when they travel to Anderson, S.C. for a SAC match against the Anderson Trojans, set for a 7 p.m. first serve.
