Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Carson-Newman hands Lady Railsplitters third straight SAC loss, 3-0

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Offense continued to elude the Lady Railsplitters (3-4-3, 1-3-2 SAC) as the Carson-Newman Eagles (8-2, 5-1 SAC) handed the Lincoln Memorial women's soccer program its third consecutive South Atlantic Conference loss by a final of 3-0 on Wednesday at the LMU Soccer Complex.

The Eagles finished with an 18-13 advantage in shot attempts and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, but those numbers don't quite indicate the severity of the Lady Railsplitters' offensive struggles.

Lincoln Memorial did not get its first shot on goal until the 57th minute when Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada) launched one from long distance. The Lady Railsplitters' only other shot on frame came in the 82nd minute from Maddy Nagy (Viera, Fla.), which was easily scooped up by Carson-Newman keeper Jessica Fraiture.

The Eagles took the lead early as Varin Ness gathered a long pass in the sixth minute, wiggled around her defender and blasted it in. Carson-Newman carried that 1-0 lead into the break.

The visiting team extended their cushion with a pair of goals less than 13 minutes apart in the second stanza. A pass from Camilla Olsson opened up a one-on-one fastbreak for Julianne Herrity, who converted the goal for the Eagles in the 54th minute. In the 66th minute, Nikki McWilliams drove in a long shot from more than 30 yards out to push the Carson-Newman lead to 3-0.

By going scoreless in a SAC contests for the third time, the Lady Railsplitters have now scored just five goals in six league matches this season, the fifth-lowest mark in the SAC.

Hunter led the Lady Railsplitters with four shots, while Caroline Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied three shot attempts. Nagy and Kadie Soall (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada) accounted for two shots.

Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.) and Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) split duties at goalkeeper. Lundy played the majority of the minutes, making four saves and allowing three goals in almost 70 minutes. Stephens did not face a shot over the last 20 minutes of action.

The Lady Railsplitters fell to 7-13-1 in the all-time series against Carson-Newman with the loss and suffered their sixth straight loss to the Eagles in Harrogate, a streak that dates back to the 2001 season.

Next up, the Lady Railsplitters invite the Newberry Wolves to the LMU Soccer Complex for a 1 p.m. South Atlantic Conference kickoff.
