Lady Railsplitters fall to Lenoir-Rhyne in waning seconds

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Cheyenne Logan buried a free throw with four seconds left to lift the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (8-14, 7-11 SAC) past the Lady Railsplitters (12-12, 9-9 SAC) 57-56 at Tex Turner Arena on Saturday afternoon. Lincoln Memorial fell for the third straight time and lost for the first time in Harrogate since January 7, ending a streak of five straight home victories.

Once again, turnovers came back to bite the Lady Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial limited the Bears to 35 percent (21-for-60) shooting from the field and a 3-for-13 mark (23.1 percent) from three, but committed 17 miscues which were converted into 23 points by L-R.

The Lady Railsplitters finished shooting 37.3 percent (19-for-51) from the field, 25 percent (4-for-16) from three and 87.5 percent (14-for-16) from the free throw line.

Sophomore Josey Harding (Middletown, Ohio) was the lone Lady Railsplitter to hit double figures in the contest, scoring 14 points on a perfect 8-for-8 effort from the free throw line. Harding also matched the team-lead with seven rebounds. Megan Pittman (Liberty, Ky.) scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds in 15 minutes of action, while Shea Coker (Knoxville, Tenn.), Katrina Ottesen (Chandler, Ariz.) and Ashley Pritchett (Decatur, Ga.) contributed six points apiece. Pritchett helped out on the boards with seven rebounds. Sydnie Anderson (Cleveland, Tenn.) notched four points and five rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.

Saturday's contest featured 11 ties and 14 lead changes. The lead flipped hands a number of times in the last five minutes alone. A Jazmine Charles jumper at 4:02 gave the Bears a 50-49 advantage, but Harding countered with a bucket in the next possession to make it a one-point game in LMU's favor.

Cheyenne pushed the Bears back in front with a layup, but Kiara Rawls (Killeen, Texas) drained a three-pointer to give the Lady Railsplitters a 54-52 lead with 2:34 left. An old-fashioned three-point by Jordan Hiatt pushed L-R back in front by one at 1:29, but Pittman buried a jumper to swing the lead once again.

The Lady Railsplitters would not get another shot attempt in the game, though, as free throws by Morgan Cooper and Logan helped the Bears capture the one-point victory.

Lincoln Memorial fell to Lenoir-Rhyne for the sixth straight time, sinking to 4-14 in the all-time series.

The Lady Railsplitters pay a visit to the Brevard Tornados on Wednesday, February 18 for a 6 p.m. tip.
