Lowe hits three home runs to lead Railsplitters in 10-4 win over Ohio Valley

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Senior outfielder Jonathan Lowe (Sidney, Ohio) drove in six runs and belted three home runs to lead the Railsplitters (17-10) in a 10-4 dismantling of the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots (0-10) in the third and final game of a nonconference series at Lamar Hennon Field on Sunday.

Lowe went deep in three straight plate appearances, fronting a run that saw Lincoln Memorial pile up all 10 runs from the fourth to the seventh inning. The Sidney, Ohio native is the first player to hit three home runs in a single game for the Railsplitters since Cody Pack accomplished that feat on March 9, 2010. It was Lowe's fourth dinger of the series as he went deep in yesterday's 5-1 win over the Fighting Scots.

The Railsplitters were down early in the contest, as Ian Sullinger led off the top of the second with a single and scored on a two-out base hit from Max Brown.

Lincoln Memorial wouldn't get that run back until Lowe slugged the home team out of their slumber with a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.

That preceded a five-run explosion in the home half of the fifth, which started with back-to-back strikeouts. Ryan Burlison (Romeoville, Ill.) and Eric Kalman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) kept the inning alive, though, with singles, while Kyle Floyd (Windsor, Ill.) gave the Railsplitters the lead with a double into right center. An error allowed another run to score and, unfortunately for Ohio Valley, brought Lowe back to the plate. Lowe then drilled a towering three-run shot over the scoreboard in right field to extend LMU's lead to 6-1.

Ohio Valley cut into the Railsplitters' lead with a two-run double from Christian Hall in the sixth frame, but Burlison got one of those runs back with a two-out RBI double in the home half of that inning.

The Railsplitters did the remainder of their damage in the seventh stanza, as Lowe demolished his third home run of the contest - this time a two-run dinger - to make it a 9-3 game. Lincoln Memorial scraped for another one in that inning on an RBI single from Wes Neiderland (Thompson Station, Tenn.).

Ohio Valley picked up its last run of the contest in the eighth on a double from Cody Morris.

Lowe came to the plate in the eighth with a chance to become the second player in South Atlantic Conference to hit four home runs in a game, but he lined out to second base.

Right-hander Wes Todd (Thompson Station, Tenn.) improved to 4-1, tossing six innings with seven hits and three runs allowed. The junior walked three and struck out five over that span. Burlison was nearly perfect in two innings of relief, allowing only one hit and one walk.

Including Lowe, four players finished with multiple hits in the contest. Lowe went 3-for-5 with six RBI, Floyd was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs, Kalman was 2-for-4, and Burlison was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

The Railsplitters captured their fifth straight win on Sunday and finished off the sweep of Ohio Valley, their third weekend series sweep of the 2015 campaign.

The Railsplitters welcome the No. 4 nationally ranked Alabama-Huntsville Chargers to Lamar Hennon Field for a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday, with first pitch in game one set for 2 p.m.
