HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's lacrosse team (1-8) looks for back-to-back nonconference wins on Wednesday when they welcome the UVA-Wise Cavaliers (0-6) to the LMU Lacrosse Complex for the home finale. First draw control is set for 2 p.m.
Following the program's inaugural win over Pikeville in the middle of last week, the Lady Railsplitters returned to South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, falling to the Newberry Wolves by a final of 17-4. Lincoln Memorial outscored the Wolves 3-2 in the second half, but a 15-1 run for Newberry through the first half proved too much to overcome.
Freshman
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) continued to make her presence known for the Lady Railsplitters on offense as Saturday's four-goal performance against Newberry increased the freshman's season goal total to 21.
Lincoln Memorial plays host to a first-year Cavaliers' squad that arrives in Harrogate still searching for the program's first ever victory. UVA-Wise has struggled mightily to produce any consistent offensive output as the team has accounted for just 25 total goals with their two highest goal outputs coming in a 12-7 loss at Newberry and a 15-10 defeat against Tennessee Wesleyan.
The Cavaliers are scoring 4.17 goals per contest while allowing opponents to score 16.00 goals per match. Lack of success on free-position opportunities and turnovers are mostly to blame for the team's offensive woes as the Cavaliers are 7-for-25 on free-position tries with 121 turnovers.
UVA-Wise is headed offensively by Annie Hanson and Hannah Marshall, who share the team lead with seven goals apiece and 15 shot attempts. Marshall leads the team with 19 ground ball pickups while teammates Rachel Cole and Taylor Lawton are the only remaining Cavaliers who have netted multiple goals.
Mel Reilly is scheduled to make her seventh start of the season in the crease for the Cavaliers as she carries a 16.00 goals against average with 96 goals allowed in 360 minutes of action. Reilly has accounted for 72 saves and a 42.9 save percentage clip on the year.
