JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitters (12-18, 3-7 SAC) were limited to four hits total as the Carson-Newman Eagles (28-8, 10-2 SAC) extended their league-best winning streak to seven games by taking both games of a South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader by scores of 3-1 and 9-1 in Jefferson City, Tenn. on Wednesday.

Game One: Carson-Newman 3, Lincoln Memorial 1
Carson-Newman starting pitcher Sarah Howard retired the first 11 batters she faced until a hit-by-pitch put
Amanda Snow (Knoxville, Tenn.) on base and ended that streak in the top of the fourth.

The Eagles did every bit of their damage just the half inning before, scoring two runs on Elayna Siebert's two-run dinger, while adding another run on a two-out RBI single from Talisa Fiame.

The Lady Railsplitters broke up Howard's no-hit bid in the top of the fifth on a two-out single from
Savannah Couch (Colonial Heights, Va.), but it resulted in nothing offensively as Couch was gunned down while attempting to steal second.

Despite Lincoln Memorial's unyielding struggles at the plate, the visiting unit still put something together in the top of the seventh. Snow was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game and
Meredith Johnson (Kenly, N.C.) doubled to bring the tying run to the plate with only one out. Following a groundout,
Megan Tice (Orlando, Fla.) drove in a run with a single back up the middle. That would be the extent of the Lady Railsplitters' offensive production, though, as Howard ended the contest with a strikeout.

Brianna Taylor (Ooltewah, Tenn.) was stuck with the loss after allowing six hits and three runs in her three-inning start. Snow was almost perfect in three innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts.

Howard improved to 6-3 with her complete-game performance, which included five strikeouts and no walks. Haley Taylor went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Eagles' eight-hit attack.

Game Two: Carson-Newman 9, Lincoln Memorial 1 (5 innings)
The Lady Railsplitters got off to a much better start offensively in game two, as Johnson slugged a two-out, solo home run in the top of the first to give Lincoln Memorial an early lead.

Johnson's homer would stand as the Lady Railsplitters' one and only hit of the ballgame, though, while Carson-Newman scored at least one run in every inning to invoke the run-rule by the time the fifth frame rolled around.

Fiame evened the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, while Lockett plated two runs with a double in the second frame. The Eagles' lead ballooned to 5-1 in the third stanza on a two-run single by Lindsay Dean, and Dean struck again in the fourth with a two-RBI double. Brooke Ramsey added the first run for Carson-Newman in the fourth with a single into right field.

Carson-Newman ended the game early in the bottom of the fifth as Erin Stanley singled and scored on a base knock from Siebert.

Snow suffered the loss after lasting just one inning on the mound, allowing three hits, three runs and two walks in her stint. Three different pitchers were used after Snow, with Johnson making her first appearance on the mound. She allowed three hits and one earned run in 1 1/3 innings.

Four different players collected two hits for Carson-Newman, who finished the nightcap with 13 hits. Dean led that effort with four RBI. Danielle Kranz earned the win for the Eagles with five innings pitched, six strikeouts and one earned run allowed.

The Lady Railsplitters are set to return to Dorothy Neely Field for four South Atlantic Conference contests this weekend, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday and Queens on Saturday for a pair of doubleheaders. First pitch against the Bears is scheduled for 2 p.m.
