YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Autumn Beddington (Newburgh, Ind.) tallied her 10th goal of the season, but the Lady Railsplitters (1-11) concluded the inaugural season of Lincoln Memorial University women's lacrosse on a sour note with a 20-1 loss to the Young Harris Mountain Lions (10-5) in Young Harris, Ga. on Wednesday night.
Young Harris netted the first 14 goals of the match, scoring eight times in the first seven and a half minutes to build a 13-0 cushion at the break. The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 14-0 on Anna Lummus's marker at the 27:48 mark of the second half.
Beddington broke the Mountain Lions' 14-0 flurry with an unassisted goal with 20:35 left in regulation, giving the Newburgh, Ind. native her 10th goal of the season. Beddington was one of two players to register double-digit goals for the Lady Railsplitters, joining classmate
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) with that distinction. James paced Lincoln Memorial with 23 goals.
Anna Kate Dulaney paced Young Harris with three goals and an assist, while Nicole Kernohan, Alexia Audet, Taylor Lincoln and Katie McNutt contributed two goals apiece. Amanda Kernohan and Meghan Tonnsen posted a pair of assists apiece.
Young Harris finished with a 29-7 edge on shot attempts and accounted for 37 of the game's 47 ground-ball recoveries. The Lady Railsplitters committed a season-low 10 turnovers, but forced the Mountain Lions into just eight blunders. LMU went 7-for-9 on clears to Young Harris' 9-for-9 effort in that department.
James led the Lady Railsplitters with five shots and matched Beddington with a team-high two draw controls. James,
McKenzie Edds (Maynardville, Tenn.) and
Ashli Motsch (Knoxville, Tenn.) were responsible for six of the team's 10 ground balls.
The Lady Railsplitters wrapped up their first ever season with a 1-11 mark, highlighted by an 8-5 win over the Pikeville Bears on March 24.
