Lundy, Lady Railsplitters shut out Montevallo in 0-0 draw

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The Lady Railsplitters (1-0-1) played the Montevallo Falcons (0-1-1) to a 0-0, double overtime draw in NCAA Division II women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon in Montevallo, Ala.

It was the Lady Railsplitters' second consecutive match to go to double overtime to open the 2015 campaign as they needed nearly 104 minutes to defeat West Alabama on Friday.

Lincoln Memorial thoroughly dominated possession but never capitalized on its many scoring opportunities. The Lady Railsplitters doubled up the Falcons on shots (22-11) and shots on goal (10-5) while also amassing a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Claire Leasure (Franklin, Tenn.) - the late-game hero in Friday night's win over West Alabama - led the Lady Railsplitters with five shots and three shots on goal. Caroline Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada) added four shots and a shot on goal apiece. Olivia Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.) contributed two shots on goal.

The Lady Railsplitters outshot the Falcons 8-3 in the first half, 10-6 in the second half, and combined for a 4-2 edge in shot attempts in the two overtime periods. LMU produced the only two shots on goal in the 20 total minutes overtime action as Leasure put one on frame in the 91st minute and Josefin Hedstrom (Burtrask, Sweden) gave the Falcons a scare in the 107th minute. Both shots were turned away by Falcon keeper Ellie Mouyal.

The match would have been decided in regulation if not for Montevallo's Katie Pearson, who served as the Falcons' second-half goalkeeper. The Lady Railsplitters steadily barraged the net over the last 10 minutes of regulation, but Pearson stonewalled two different attempts from Leasure (81', 86') and another by Maddy Nagy (Viera, Fla.) with just four seconds left on the clock.

Mouyal and Pearson combined for the shutout for the Falcons as Mouyal made four saves in 65 minutes, while Pearson collected six stops in 45 minutes.

Lincoln Memorial keeper Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.) matched the Falcons' pair and posted the first shutout of her collegiate career by making a career-high five saves, including a monster stop in the 83rd minute, in 110 minutes of action.

The all-time series record between Lincoln Memorial and Montevallo moved to 7-5-2 following the draw. It was the first head-to-head match-up between the two programs since 2005 and the first tie in the series since 1998.

Next up, the Lady Railsplitters challenge the Lee Flames on Sunday, September 13 in Cleveland, Tenn. Live stats and a video feed will be available through www.LMURailsplitters.com. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
