DUE WEST, S.C. -- The Lady Railsplitters (3-8) suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Erskine Flying Fleet (6-4) on Saturday afternoon in Due West, S.C. Errors proved costly for Lincoln Memorial in game one, as the Flying Fleet took advantage of four miscues by the Lady Railsplitters to rally for a 6-4 victory. In game two, LMU's offense struggled to get anything going in a 3-2 loss.

The Lady Railsplitters jump right back into action on Sunday afternoon when they square off against the Limestone Saints in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in Gaffney, S.C.
Â
Game One: Erskine 6, Lincoln Memorial 4 Â
The Flying Fleet raced out to a 3-0 lead after tallying a run in the first and two more runs in the second inning. Erskine put the first run of the game on the board when Reagan Davis led off with a single in the bottom of the first and later scored on an RBI hit from Sydney Smith. In the bottom of the second, two LMU errors paired with a Mia Blochviak sacrifice fly out helped the Flying Fleet score twice.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters answered back in the top of the third inning, as
Becca Burchette (Gas City, Ind.) led off with her first home run in an LMU jersey to trim the deficit to 3-1.
Ashlea Hunter (Woodruff, S.C.) singled in the next at-bat to put Lincoln Memorial back in business, and she quickly moved into scoring position by stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball. She would eventually score on a wild pitch.
Â
The next couple of innings passed without consequence, but the Lady Railsplitters took the lead in the top of the fifth frame. After back-to-back ground outs,
Teddi Collins (Germantown, Ohio) sparked a two-out rally with a single.
Savannah Couch (Colonial Heights, Va.) followed that up with a two-run blast, notching her first homer of the season and the second of her career, to put the visiting team ahead 4-3.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters carried that one-run advantage into the bottom of the sixth inning, however, a couple of infield errors helped Erskine put runners on first and second with no outs. Following a ground out, which moved the runners up a base, Hill stunned Lincoln Memorial by hitting a three-run home run to push the Flying Fleet in front 6-4. Erskine would put two more runners on with singles in the inning but were prevented from extending the lead any further.
Â
A two-out error brought the tying run to the plate for the Lady Railsplitters in the visitor's half of the seventh, but Couch grounded out to end the game.
Â
Couch led the Lady Railsplitters offensively with two RBI and a run scored on that homer. Seven different players finished with a single hit for Lincoln Memorial, who had four stolen bases in the game.
Â
Samantha Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) fell to 1-2 on the season in the loss, as she allowed four hits and no earned runs in two innings of relief work.
Brianna Taylor (Ooltewah, Tenn.) made the start for Lincoln Memorial, giving up just two hits and two runs over four innings.
Â
Danica Newton picked up the win for the Flying Fleet after throwing a complete game with seven hits and three earned runs allowed. She struck out one and didn't walk anybody.
Â
Game Two: Erskine 3, Lincoln Memorial 2 Â
The Lady Railsplitters mustered just five hits and left seven runners stranded on the bases in game two to suffer the doubleheader sweep.
Â
The top of the first inning was the most productive of the game for Lincoln Memorial, as
Meredith Johnson (Kenly, N.C.) singled and
Jennifer Moose (Statesville, N.C.) doubled to spark a two-out rally. A passed ball allowed Johnson to score, but an infield fly out kept the Lady Railsplitters from adding to their lead.
Â
Erskine bounced right back and grabbed a 2-1 lead in the home half of the first thanks to an RBI single from Chandler Crawford and a run-scoring ground out by Lydia Trexler.
Â
The Flying Fleet tacked onto their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Crawford led off with a solo home run.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters wouldn't get another runner into scoring position until the top of the fifth. Hunter struck out to lead off that inning but reached on a passed ball and stole second with one out. However, back-to-back fly outs kept Erskine in front 3-1.
Â
The Flying Fleet threatened to add more runs in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases with just one out. However, LMU starter
Kenzie Dixon (Church Hill, Tenn.) recorded a strikeout and a fly out to work out of that jam.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters finally got something going in the top of the seventh frame, as Hunter led off with a walk and advanced to second on a
Kristen McAndrew (Belmont, N.C.) ground out. She would come across to score on
Lindsay Cecil's (Winston-Salem, N.C.) RBI single, which put the tying run on base. But Johnson flew out to end the threat and send Lincoln Memorial away with a 3-2 loss.
Â
Five different players finished with a single hit for the Lady Railsplitters.
Â
Dixon was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season after giving up six hits and two earned runs over six innings of work.
Â
Crawford paced the Erskine offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Candace Fitch improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, holding the Lady Railsplitters to five hits with six strikeouts in the complete game performance.
