GATLINBURG, Tenn. -- The potent offensive attack of Young Harris (4-0) was too much for the Lady Railsplitter women's lacrosse team (1-1) to overcome as they fell to the Mountain Lions 22-5 at the Rocky Top Sports World Wednesday afternoon.
The game was moved to the Rocky Top complex due to the heavy rain over the past few days in Harrogate.
Five different LMU players scored in the loss.
Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) went the distance in goal and gathered seven saves.
Nicole Kernohan led the Mountain Lions with five goals, followed by Kendra Parenteau, Taylor Lincoln and Jaclyn Kernohan with three goals apiece. Maddie Peek and Erika Cross had two goals each and four other players each tallied one goal. Julia Darroch played 54:46 in cage and had five saves before she was replaced by Carter Moore for the last 5:14 of the game.
The Mountain Lions came out looking to score and shot out to an 11-0 lead before Jasmine Click (Clermont, Fla.) took a pass from
Casey Kelly (Ellenwood, Ga.) and put the Lady Railplitters on the board with 14:46 remaining in the half. A little over five minutes later, Click found
Autumn Beddington (Newburgh Ind.) open in front of the goal and Beddington capitalized for LMU's second goal. Young Harris would score five more goals before
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) took a long pass from Novak, went down the field and scored with 1:00 left to cut the Mountain Lion lead to 16-3 at the half.
Young Harris would get a goal early into the second half, only to see LMU score again as
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Va.) picked up her fifth goal of the season to cut the lead to 16-4. Later in the half, a pair of LMU yellow cards led to two woman-up goals by the Mountain Lions and put Young Harris up 19-4. With 11:26 remaining,
Abby Hoskins (Louisville, KY.) took a pass from James and scored for the Lady Railsplitters. Young Harris would score three more times before the end of the match to pick up the 22-5 victory.
