WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Railsplitter tennis team (0-1) dropped their spring season opener at the University of the Cumberlands (2-0) 6-3 Friday afternoon at the UC Tennis Courts.LMU's wins came at the No. 2 double flight and Nos. 3 and 4 singles flights.
In doubles, UC's Ariez Heshaam and Daniel Fraser defeated
Joshua Coulthard and
David Segarra 9-7 at the No. 1 flight. At No. 2, LMU's
Pepe Batalla and
Joshua Peress win 8-6 over Dev Sivam and Yusuke Matsuoka. Daniel Butcher and Aatu Meinenheimo won 8-4 over LMU's
Guilherme Rocha and
Moritz Hoerner at the No. 3 flight.
In singles action, Batalla cruised past Leonardo del Mello Couto 6-1 6-4 at the No. 3 flight while Peress handily defeated Fraser 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.
UC's Heshaam won over Coulthard 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 while at No. 2 Butcher defeated Hoerner 6-2, 6-4. At No. 5 Matsuoka needed a third set tiebreaker to get past LMU's Segarra while Meinenheimo won over Rocha 6-2, 6-3.
The Railsplitters travel to Richmond, Kentucky tomorrow to face the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky at 5:30 p.m. They will return home on Sunday, Feb. 7 to face Union College at 1 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Complex.
