Harrogate, TN -- Lincoln Memorial men's tennis tandem
Radu Florea and Jakub Hrasek have been named the Juice Spot Railsplitters of the Week following a historic performance at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship. Playing in the finals of the regional tournament as a doubles pair, Florea and Hrasek clinched a spot in the ITA Individual Championships, becoming the first doubles pairing in school history to reach the national event. The duo opened top-pool play on Friday against Mount Olive, setting the tone for their remarkable run with a convincing 8-4 victory over the Trojans to advance to the second round.
In the second round, the Railsplitters squared off against the bracket's fifth-seeded duo from Catawba. Following a delay caused by Saturday morning rain, Florea and Hrasek pulled away late in the match to secure an 8-5 win and earn a trip to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal matchup against Young Harris proved to be a grueling, back-and-forth contest with neither team gaining full control. After pushing the set into extra games, the Lincoln Memorial pair found a late groove, dominating the decisive tiebreaker 7-0 to capture a 9-8 victory and advance to the semifinals.
The semifinals featured another high-stakes battle as the Railsplitters took on the tournament's third-seeded pair from North Georgia. Both teams traded sets early, and after a hard-fought battle with no clear winner through regulation games, extra play was required with the score knotted at 8-8. The Lincoln Memorial tandem found another gear in the clutch, winning the tiebreaker 8-6 to seal their spot in the championship match. Facing the eighth-seeded duo from Lander University in the final, Florea and Hrasek completed a memorable tournament run that officially secured their historic qualification for the national tournament.
