MARS HILL, N.C. -- The Railsplitter tennis team (2-7, 1-4 SAC) picked up their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season as they picked up the 6-3 win over Mars Hill (3-8, 0-5 SAC) Saturday afternoon at the Hart Tennis Complex.
The Railsplitters picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 2
Pepe Batalla and
Joshua Peress defeated Ben Reid and Markus Gattner 8-6 while at No. 3
Guilherme Rocha and
David Segarra blanked Blake Covington and Danny Nelson 8-0.
In singles play, LMU won flights No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 to take the match victory. At No. 3, Batalla defeated Gattner 6-3, 6-2 and at No. 4 Peress won over Mars Hill's Sam Lee 6-3, 6-2. LMU's Segarra bested Carlo Riesco in three sets at No. 5 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 while Rocha was up 6-1, 3-0 at No. 6 when rain halted play.
LMU travels to Georgetown, Kentucky for a 2 p.m. match against Georgetown College on March 7.
