Railsplitters race past Notre Dame de Namur 22-7

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Sophomores Dylan Neisler (Detroit, Mich.) and Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) combined to score 13 goals to help the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team (3-1) break the program's single-game scoring record in a 22-7 win over the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts (2-4) on Monday afternoon in Harrogate, Tenn.

The Railsplitters racked up seven goals in the first quarter and tacked on six more in the fourth quarter to bookend a performance that saw the second-year program obliterate its previous high watermark for goals in a match, which was previously set in a 17-2 win over Asbury in the 2015 season finale.

Neisler broke the program's individual record for goals in a match by scoring seven times to push his season total to 11, while Golia piled up six goals and two assists to break LMU's single-game point record and increase his team-leading point total to 25. Reggie Golfin (Detroit, Mich.) added three goals, while Justin Stewart (Copiague, N.Y.) produced five points with a pair of goals and three assists. Billy Kopsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Nick Borriello (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) chipped in two goals apiece, while Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) tallied three assists.

Goalkeeper Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) improved to 3-1 on the season after making a career-high 15 saves over 50 minutes of action. Medel was relieved by Colin Parrington (Middletown, N.Y.) for the final 10 minutes, as Parrington finished with three saves during that span.

Neisler registered a hat trick in a little over eight minutes, scoring at 13:52, 10:01 and 6:50 to power a 6-0 opening run by the Railsplitters. Golia added a pair of goals over the spurt, while Golfin tallied at the 8:02 mark.

The Argonauts finally broke through with just under four minutes left in the first quarter on a goal by Campbell, but Golia completed his hat trick by scoring with 35 seconds left in the quarter to put Lincoln Memorial ahead 7-1 after one.

Golia and Stewart scored less than a minute apart early in the second quarter to increase the Railsplitters' lead to 10-2, but NDNU countered with two quick goals from Andrew Arabejo and Andrew Kofoed to close the gap to 10-4 with three minutes and some change left in the half. However, Kopsky finished off a pass from Stewart at the 2:31 mark, while Stewart scored in unassisted fashion 37 seconds later to send Lincoln Memorial into the break with a commanding 12-4 advantage.

The Railsplitters started slow in the second half, as the Argonauts pulled to within seven at 13-6 on another goal by Campbell at the 6:48 mark. However, goals from Golia, Kopsky and Neisler powered a quick 3-0 run that made it 16-6 in favor of Lincoln Memorial.

Kofoed scored for the Argonauts with two minutes left in the third quarter, but that would be NDNU's final goal of the match, as the Railsplitters outscored the visitors from Belmont, Calif. 6-0 in the fourth frame to complete the 22-7 triumph.

The Argonauts narrowly edged the Railsplitters at the face-off x, winning 17 of the match's 32 face-offs. But Lincoln Memorial finished with a 42-38 advantage in shot attempts while going 14-for-15 on clears. Kyle Fleck (Toledo, Ohio) led the Railsplitters with six ground ball recoveries and two caused turnovers.

Campbell had three goals to lead the Argonauts, while Kofoed notched two goals and an assist in the loss.

With the win, Lincoln Memorial improved to 6-4 all-time at home and captured its fifth straight home win dating back to the end of the 2015 campaign.

The Railsplitters return to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, March 12 when they welcome the Catawba Indians to town for a 1 p.m. start.
