HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Playing in their final home match of the season, the Railsplitter tennis team (8-11) fell to the University of the Cumberlands (10-6) 5-4 Wednesday afternoon at the LMU Tennis complex.
After the match the team celebrated Senior Day and honored lone senior
Guilherme Rocha.
The Patriots took two of the three doubles matches.
Pepe Batalla and
David Segarra picked up the 8-6 win at No. 2 to make the score 2-1 going into singles play.
Cumberlands won at Nos. 1, 3 and 6 to earn the match victory.
Joshua Peress won at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-3 to earn his 18th victory of the season. Batalla was up 7-5, 6-7, 3-2 at No. 2 and Segarra was up 7-6, 4-1 at No. 5 before the Cumberlands coach decided to halt play, so they win their matches by retirement.
The Railsplitters will now wait to see the outcome of the Coker/Mars Hill match this Saturday to see if they can earn a spot in next week's SAC Tournament.
