Last Time Out
Lenoir-Rhyne opened on a 4-0 run and never looked back in a 19-5 win over Lincoln Memorial last Saturday in Hickory, North Carolina. Despite that quick start by the Bears,
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Va.) scored two first-half goals to keep the Lady Railsplitters within striking distance at the half. However, Lenoir-Rhyne steadily pulled away in the second half, outscoring Lincoln Memorial 10-3 over the final 30 minutes to move to 6-1 in South Atlantic Conference play and send the Lady Railsplitters home with their sixth straight loss. Moss led the Lady Railsplitters with three goals on nine shots and seven shots on goal, while
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) and
Jasmin Click (Clermont, Fla.) added a goal apiece.
Happy to be Home
The Lady Railsplitters are back on their home field for just the second time since the middle of March, as Lincoln Memorial has played seven of its last eight matches outside of Harrogate. The Lady Railsplitters have yet to win at home this season, but they have put forth a number of stellar efforts, suffering one-goal losses to Newberry and Brevard sandwiched around a 19-13 loss to Catawba. Brevard and Catawba are both set to compete in the SAC tournament next week.
Senior Day Festivities
In coordination with the regular-season and home finale, Lincoln Memorial will honor its two seniors -
Kylah Endicott (Pineville, Ky.) and
Hannah Furrer (Oneida, Tenn.) - during a pre-match ceremony. Endicott has made 15 appearances in her two seasons with the Lady Railsplitters, accumulating two goals on seven shots and three shots on goal while scooping up 11 groundballs. Furrer has made 20 appearances for the Lady Railsplitters, including 12 this season, registering 21 groundballs, eight draw controls and six caused turnovers. Both Endicott and Furrer were members of the first-ever women's lacrosse team at Lincoln Memorial.
Solid at Draw Control
Thanks to the tandem of Moss and James, the Lady Railsplitters are ranked fifth in the South Atlantic Conference and 25th in the nation in draw controls per game with 13.07. James leads the SAC and is ranked 14th nationally in that department with 4.57 draw controls per game, while Moss is ranked eighth in the SAC with 3.29. The draw circle will be an area to watch against Coker, which ranks third in the SAC and 16th nationally in draw controls per game with 13.79.
Click and Kelly Closing in on 30 Points
Moss leads the Lady Railsplitters with 40 points (35 goals, 5 assists), while James is second on the team with 31 points (25 goals, 6 assists). But both Click and
Casey Kelly (Ellenwood, Ga.) are on the verge of joining the 30-point club. Click has accounted for 28 points this season with 21 goals and seven assists, while Kelly has 26 points with 12 goals and a team-leading 14 assists.
Last Meeting with Coker
The Cobras used a 12-0 opening run to hand the short-handed Lady Railsplitters a 16-3 loss last season in Hartsville, South Carolina. In just the second-ever match for the LMU women's lacrosse program, James tallied two goals, while
Autumn Beddington (Newburgh, Ind.) accounted for the Lady Railsplitters' final goal at the 24:51 mark of the second half. Lincoln Memorial finished with seven shots and six shots on goal, while the Cobras piled up 36 shots with 28 shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) produced 12 saves, while James had six of LMU's seven shot attempts.
Coker Missing Out on Postseason
The Cobras were 1-2 in SAC play through the first three matches, but have since lost four straight league matches to fall out of contention for a spot in the SAC Championship field. Coker was most recently handed a 19-6 beatdown by league-leading Queens. Prior to that, the Cobras notched a 16-9 win over Chowan and fell 14-10 at Tusculum. Coker is surprisingly much better on the road than at home, as the Cobras are 6-2 outside of Hartsville as compared to a 1-5 mark at home.
A Look at the Numbers
The Cobras are a middle-of-the-road offensive team, ranking sixth in the SAC in scoring with 11.21 goals per game and fifth in scoring margin (-0.14). But Coker is a solid defensive unit, ranking fourth in the league in goals per game allowed with 11.36 while leading the nation in caused turnovers per game with 13.79. Coker's sputtering offensive group has been plagued by a poor free-position percentage, as the Cobras are last in the conference and 95th in the nation with a 26.5 percent conversion rate on free-position attempts.
Players to Watch
Freshman attacker Faith Kent is by far Coker's most dangerous player, as she has accounted for 58 points on 45 goals, 13 assists, 105 shots and 87 shots on goal. Sophomores Haley McCusker (32 goals, 7 assists) and Claudia Jenkins (27 goals, 9 assists) have backed Kent with 39 and 36 points, respectively. Junior midfielder Mackenzie Baker has racked up 25 points with 21 goals and four assists. The Lady Railsplitters must be aware of Marabeth Durden, Kaitlyn Kimball, Jenkins and Lindsay Ordemann, who each have at least 28 caused turnovers this season. Freshman Cassie Dodge has played every second in goal for the Cobras, accumulating an 11.36 goals against average and a 39.6 save percentage.
