HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitter lacrosse team kept it close for three-quarters of the match, but Coker's depth eventually won out as the Cobras pulled out the 23-10 win Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex.
It was senior day for LMU, who said farewell to seniors
Hannah Furrer (Oneida, Tenn.) and
Kylah Endicott (Pineville, Ky.).
Casey Kelly (Ellenwood, Ga.) and
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) each. Jasmine Click (Clermont, Fla.),
Abby Hoskins (Louisville, Ky.),
Jeni Schorling (Westerville, Ohio) and
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Va.) each knotted a goal apiece.
Claudia Jenkins led the Cobras with six goals. Faith Kent and Haley McCusker both added in five foals each.
Coker outshot LMU 40-29 (38-22 in shots on goal) and had 27 ground balls to LMU's 22. The Lady Railsplitters ended the day with an 18-17 advantage in draw controls.
McCusker got things going for the Cobras early as she had two goals in the first 2:30 of play. Moss scored her 33rd goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1 with a little less than 26 minutes left in the half. Coker then scored two goals before James scored her first goal of the day with 20:50 left. After a Kent goal four minutes later, Kelly answered back with a goal of her own to cut the lead to 5-3. The Cobras then scored three more goals before James scored her second goal with 7:25 remaining. CC's Jenkins would score two goals and Kent add another before the end of the half to give the Cobras the 11-4 lead at the intermission.
The Lady Railsplitters came out on a tear in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals. Kelly got things going less than a minute into the half, followed by Click's 21st goal of the season two and a half minutes later. James then scored her third goal of the game and 27th of the season off an assist by Kelly at the 27:13 mark. Schorling then scored her sixth goal of the season at the 22:23 mark to cut the lead to 11-8.
After a Coker timeout, the Cobras would score two goals in 35 seconds to pull back out to a 13-8 lead. Hoskins would cut the lead back to four with her 12th goal of the year with 20:45 left, but McCusker answered back on the next possession to put the lead back up to five. Kelly would score her 15th goal of the season with 17:01 left to cut the lead back to four, but then Coker rallied off nine unanswered goals to coast to the 23-10 victory.
LMU's season comes to an end with the loss. They finish the program's second season with a 3-12 overall record and a 0-8 record in South Atlantic Conference play. Coker also ends their season with the win and finish up with an 8-7 record, 2-6 in the SAC.
