ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson (5-8-1, 4-5 SAC) scored less than three minutes into overtime to send the Lady Railsplitters (7-8, 2-7 SAC) home with their fifth 1-0 loss of the season in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
After playing to a scoreless stalemate through 90 minutes of action, Lincoln Memorial went to overtime for the second match in a row. It didn't take long for the Trojans to clinch the victory, though, as Lauren Allan recovered a ball near midfield, dribbled through the LMU defense and beat goalkeeper
Brooke Taylor to her right in the 93rd minute for the game-winning goal.
Allan's goal came less than a minute after
Melissa Carpenter fired a shot on goal for the Lady Railsplitters that was saved by Anderson's Abby Helm, who made three saves in the contest to post her fourth shutout of the season.
Brooke Taylor made six saves and fell to 7-8 despite allowing just one goal for the eighth time this season.
The Lady Railsplitters were outshot in each half and 17-8 overall. Anderson also finished with a 7-3 edge in shots on goal and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Six players registered at least one shot for the Lady Railsplitters, led by two apiece from Carpenter and
Mariana Diaz. That duo produced a shot on goal apiece while
Courtney Boyd landed her one and only shot on target as well.
