WISE, Va. -- The LMU women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season as they blanked the host University of Virginia's College at Wise 9-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Humphreys Tennis Complex.

Angelica Solano and Julia Valls got the ball rolling as they defeated Montana Hill and Gabrielle Beville 8-0 at the #3 flight. Shortly thereafter, Johanna Delisse and Julia Loos picked up the win at #1 with their 8-0 victory over Daria Tyshchenko and Aya Melhem. Marta Pinol and Javiera Gonazalez then completed the sweep at doubles with their 8-6 come from behind win over Taylor Carter and Mackenzie Laweson at #2.

In singles play, Pinol cruised to the 6-1,6-1 win over Tyshchenko at #1, followed shortly thereafter by Solano's 6-2, 6-0 win over Burgess at #5. Loos then blanked Melhem 6-0, 6-0 at #2 and Delisse defeated Hill 6-4, 6-0 at #6. Valls eked out a 6-4, 6-3 win at #3 over Carter, followed by Zellner's 6-0, 4-6, 10-3 tiebreaker set win at #4 to complete LMU's sweep of the Highland Cavaliers.

Barring any late additions to the schedule, this match closes out the fall portion of the schedule for the women's tennis team. They are next scheduled to host the University of the Cumberlands on Feb. 3, 2018.
