BREVARD, NC – The LMU men's tennis team picked up their first South Atlantic Conference win of 2017 as they defeated Brevard 8-1 Saturday afternoon.
LMU swept the doubles flights, with
Xavier Marti/
Joshua Peress defeating JR Davis/Tom Mittring 8-6;
David Segarra/
Pepe Batalla beating Cre Still/Will Christiansen 8-5; and
Jake Tuchmann/
Carlos Zunino winning 8-3 over Christoph Plasa/Tim Hengst (BC).
In singles play, LMU won all but one of the flights. At No. 2 Peress defeated Mittring 6-3, 6-3 while Marti bested Davis at No. 3 6-0, 6-3. Batalla won over Hengst 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, Segarra defeated Christiansen 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and Hoerner won over Plasa 6-2, 6-1.
With the win, the Railsplitters improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in SAC play.
LMU is scheduled to host Union College Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Complex.
