HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The King Tornado (10-1) hit a blistering .342 to hand the Railsplitters (3-9) a 3-0 loss at Mary Mars Gymnasium on Tuesday night. With the loss, Lincoln Memorial dropped its fourth consecutive match, while King extended its winning streak to eight games and completed the season sweep against the Railsplitters.
Â
King's .342 attack percentage was the second-highest mark allowed by Lincoln Memorial this season, trailing only the .404 effort by Alderson Broaddus in the Railsplitters' previous match. The Tornado finished with 37 kills and just 12 errors, while Lincoln Memorial was limited to 22 kills on a .103 hitting percentage.
Â
Joshua Riblett (Torrence, Calif.) led the Railsplitters with eight kills, while
Pedro Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had five kills on a team-leading .417 attack percentage.
Evan Cory (Metairie, La.) struggled to get anything going, finishing with four kills and six attack errors.
Ryan Iskandar (Tempe, Ariz.) had 18 of the team's 21 assists and also led the way with seven digs.
Â
King was powered by eight kills apiece from Jeff Sprayberry and Eddie Moushikhian. Adrian Besson and Jon Wheaton chipped in seven kills each, while Nick Drooker led all players with 30 assists. Jimmy Nuckolls notched a game-high 10 digs.
Â
The Railsplitters hung right with the Tornado early in the opening set, closing the deficit to 8-6 on a Kiel Bell attack error. However, King put the set virtually out of reach with a 7-0 run aided by six LMU miscues over the next passage of play. Lincoln Memorial won the next two points and closed the gap to 15-8 with a kill from Cory, but King won three of the next four rallies to take an 18-9 lead. The Railsplitters never trailed by less than six points after that, as a kill from Jon Wheaton ended the set.
Â
The second set played out in similar fashion, as the Railsplitters trailed by just three points at 13-10 following a King attack error. This time, the Tornado run came in the form of a 6-0 flurry, which put Lincoln Memorial in a 19-10 hole. From there, the two teams traded points until King wrapped up the 25-15 win with an LMU service error. The Tornado hit a sizzling-hot .538 in the frame with 17 kills and just three errors.
Â
The Tornado raced out to a 13-7 lead in the third set, but the Railsplitters won five of the next six rallies to close the gap to 14-12 on a Carvalho kill. Despite pulling to within one at 17-16 and two at 20-18, a 3-0 King run essentially put the set out of reach and made it 23-18 in favor of the Tornado. A kill from Sprayberry clinched King's 3-0 triumph.
Â
The Railsplitters are back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. when they host St. Andrews at Mary Mars Gymnasium.Â
