HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU men's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season as they pounded Union College 7-2 Thursday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Complex. The 4-1 start is the best start since the 2012-13 season.

Jake Tuchmann (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Carlos Zunino (Samborondón, Ecuador) got things going for the Railsplitters as they defeated Union's Tiago Gil and Ethan Wright 8-5 at the No. 3 flight. The Spanish duo of Pepe Batalla (Barcelona, Spain) and David Segarra (Sabadell, Spain) then won a close one over Borna Bartolovic and Egil Brudvik 8-6 at No. 2 to put LMU ahead 2-0. The match at No. 1 was a see-saw affair with both sides holding the lead before Union's Srdjan Trosic and Ewan McKinnie came back to tie the flight at 8-8 and then won over Xavier Marti (Tortosa, Spain) and Joshua Peress (Montreal, Quebec) 8-6 in the tiebreaker set to pick up the 9-8 victory.

In singles action, Union picked up their second point of the match when Trosic defeated Joshua Coulthard (Staindrop, England) 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. LMU then swept the next five flights to take the match. Peress coasted past Brudvik 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 while Marti made quick work of Bartolovic with the 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. Batalla then gave LMU the win with his 7-5, 6-2 win over McKinnie at No. 4. At No. 5 Segarra won over Gil 6-3, 6-3 and Moritz Hoerner (Erlangen, Germany) defeated UC's Henry St. John 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

Next up for the Railsplitters is the home SAC opener on Saturday vs. Wingate. Following that, the Railsplitters host local rival UVa-Wise Sunday morning.
