Men's Volleyball hosts Emmanuel and Mount Olive at Mary Mars this weekend

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team (5-9) looks to continue its solid play at Mary Mars Gymnasium this weekend when the Railsplitters host Emmanuel (3-10) at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Mount Olive (9-5) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Quick Hits:

-The Railsplitters won their second straight match and improved to 4-1 at Mary Mars Gym on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Campbellsville Tigers. Lincoln Memorial was facing a two-sets-to-one deficit, but won the fourth set 25-23 and closed the fifth frame on a 4-0 run to cap the come-from-behind victory. That gave Lincoln Memorial the second two-game winning streak of its inaugural season.

-Joshua Riblett (Torrence, Calif.) matched his own program record for kills with 18, while Evan Cory (Metairie, La.) had 13 and Pedro Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) produced 11 on just 19 attempts for a .421 clip. Ryan Iskandar (Tempe, Ariz.) broke the program single-match record for assists with 46, while Jorge Collazo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) racked up 12 digs.

-The Railsplitters have tallied a program-record 55 kills in each of the last two matches. Lincoln Memorial reached that figure in just four sets against St. Andrews while compiling a .310 attack percentage. After going five consecutive matches without hitting above .250, the Railsplitters have done it twice in a row.

-Lincoln Memorial is 4-1 at home this season and 1-8 everywhere else. That is due in large part to offensive efficiency, as the Railsplitters are hitting .225 at Mary Mars Gym as compared to a .145 mark away from Harrogate. That number is a tad bit inflated, too, as Lincoln Memorial posted a program-best .435 clip at Bluefield on January 25, but hasn't hit above .190 in any other road match.

-The Railsplitters defeated Campbellsville despite committing a season-high 31 service errors, which came four days after LMU made 20 service errors against St. Andrews. For the season, Lincoln Memorial has aced just 53 times with 206 miscues.

Notes on Emmanuel:

-After losing eight straight matches from January 20 to February 11, the Lions have won two of their last three, including a 3-0 victory over Belmont Abbey on Monday. Emmanuel will look to make it three wins in the last four tries on Friday night when they hosts Pfeiffer before making the trip to Harrogate.

-Emmanuel is a stingy defensive unit that is ranked third in the country in opponent hitting percentage (.177) and digs per set (9.42).

-The Lions and Railsplitters share two common opponents in King and Lees-McRae. Lincoln Memorial split a two-game series against Lees-McRae and was swept twice by King, while Emmanuel lost in five sets to both King and Lees-McRae.

-The Lions' offensive numbers don't jump off the page, as they are averaging 10.62 kills per set on a cumulative .215 attack percentage.

-Junior middle Ackeem West, junior outside hitter Gilberto Cervantes and freshman outside Aleksa Lakic are all averaging over two kills per set. West has a team-high 2.45 kills per set and 130 total on a sizzling .330 attack percentage (25th in the nation), while Cervantes is contributing 2.24 kills per set on a .221 mark. Lakic is chipping in 2.19 kills per set and 0.94 digs per frame.

-Sophomore Caleb Bonaventure is producing a team-high 8.79 assists per set, while senior libero Stephen Diaz is ranked fourth in the nation in digs per set with 2.71.

-Emmanuel is 2-6 in road matches this season. The Lions are producing 10.33 kills per set on a .204 on the road as compared to 11.0 kills per set and a .229 attack percentage at home.

Notes on Mount Olive:

-The Trojans enter this weekend with wins in six of their last seven matches. However, Mount Olive lost in four sets to Barton on Tuesday and has a date with No. 5 nationally-ranked Lewis on tap Saturday.

-Four of Mount Olive's five losses this season have come against teams ranked in the top 15 of the AVCA poll – No. 8 Stanford, No. 13 UC Santa Barbara, No. 11 CSUN and No. 15 Penn State.

-The Trojans picked up a signature win on February 17 when they snapped King's eight-game winning streak with a come-from-behind 3-2 win in Bristol, Tenn. Mount Olive trailed 2-0 after two sets, but rallied to down the Tornado, who swept the Railsplitters twice this season.

-The Trojans are a deadly serving team, ranking 12th in the country with 1.39 aces per set. Robert Poole leads the team with 28 aces, while Bret Rutledge has 20 to his credit.

-Poole leads Mount Olive and is ranked 17th in the nation in kills per set with 3.61 on a .239 attack percentage. He is also chipping in 0.93 digs per set. Rutledge has averaged 2.44 kills per set on a .198 hitting percentage. Joel Roberts (1.82 kills/set, 1.25 digs/set) and Alex Palmatier (1.75 kills/set) have also contributed to the Trojans' offensive attack.

-Junior Jeff Yasalonis leads the Trojans with 9.28 assists per set to go along with 1.70 digs per frame. Josh Donahue is fifth in the country in digs per set with 2.67.

-Mount Olive is 5-2 on the road this season. The Trojans haven't lost a road match since falling at Penn State on January 27.
