HARROGATE, Tenn. – Quincy University snapped its 10-game losing streak Friday night as the Hawks (5-14) topped the Railsplitters (8-15) in four sets. Lincoln Memorial dropped the first two sets 25-23 and 25-20 before taking the third set 25-20. Quincy won the fourth set 25-20 to clinch the match.
David Siebum and Anthony Winter racked up double digit kills with 16 and 10, respectively. Siebum also totaled three service aces and two blocks. Thane Fanfulik was the team leader with 32 assists and eight digs.
Evan Cory (Metairie, La.) led Lincoln Memorial's attack with nine kills.
Pedro Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the only Railsplitter to record a hitting percentage above .150 with a .333 mark. He added six kills and four blocks.
Ryan Iskandar (Tempe, Ariz.) racked up 24 assists and scored all three of the team's aces.
Jorge Collazo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) notched a game-high 12 digs.
Quincy held a 51-31 kills advantage and hit .192 as a team to Lincoln Memorial's .120. However, the Hawks also racked up 28 attacking errors to 20 for the Railsplitters. They also collected another 20 service errors to Lincoln Memorial's 12, but scored eight service aces.
The Hawks used a 10-2 run early in the first set to move ahead 11-5 and held onto the lead to win 25-23. Lincoln Memorial pulled to within one point on three occasions, with the last at 24-23, but could never pull even. Quincy hit just .080 in the set, but that still bested Lincoln Memorial's .036 mark. Winter hit home the deciding point for his only kill of the set.
Quincy used a .250 hitting percentage and 13 kills to take the second set. The teams opened the set in an 8-8 stalemate, but the Hawks went on a 7-1 run to pull ahead 13-9. Lincoln Memorial could not cut the deficit to less than two the rest of the way.
Lincoln Memorial came out the 10-minute break with the hot hand and hit .368 with 10 kills in the third set. Cory, Carvalho and
Joshua Riblett (Torrence, Calif.) racked up two kills each to lead the offensive charge. The Railsplitters never trailed in the set and led for good after moving ahead 3-2. The team's lead grew to as much as six at 22-16 and 24-18.
Quincy came back in the fourth and final set with 18-5 kills advantage. Siebaum (8) and Winter (5) racked half their total kills in the set to blow away Lincoln Memorial's offensive production. The Railsplitters remained within striking distance courtesy of nine Hawk attack errors and five service errors, but a 6-0 Quincy run to put the team up 14-8 proved to be the difference, as the Railsplitters could not pull to within less than three points afterward.
The Railsplitters close out the home portion of their schedule Friday at 6 p.m. when Limestone pays a visit to Mary Mars Gymnasium.
