HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lady Railsplitter lacrosse team seeks to put a heartbreaking loss behind them as they travel to Brevard Saturday for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Tornados.
LMU (3-8, 1-5 South Atlantic Conference) fell to Tusculum 15-14 Wednesday afternoon. They held a four goal lead with less than ten minutes remaining, but the offense went cold and the Pioneers were able to chip away at the lead and eventually tie the game with 5:53 left. After several shot attempts by both sides, Tusculum took control of the ball and held it for more than 3 minutes. With 12 seconds left TC scored the go-ahead goal and escaped the LMU Lacrosse Complex with the win.
The Lady Railsplitters are led by
Casey Kelly's (Ellenwood, Ga.) 23 goals, 13 assists, 17 turnovers caused and 39 ground balls. Kelly ranks second in the SAC in shots and points, third in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers, fourth in goals and fifth in assists.
Jasmin Click (Clermont, Fla.) is second in scoring with 22 goals and also has four assists.
Zoe Zervos (Ithaca, N.Y.) has 19 goals and four assists.
Heather Roache (Vero Beach, Fla.) has 17 goals,
Kennedy Buechner (Stafford, Va.) has 15 goals and
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Va.) has 13 goals on the year.
Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) has 115 saves on the season while giving up 150 goals. She is currently ranked second in the SAC in saves.
As a team, LMU is shooting 41.0%, with 76.6% of those shots being on goal. They are second in the SAC in saves, third in caused turnovers and ground balls, fourth in shots, draw controls per game and shots on goal and fifth in goals.
Brevard has three players with double-digit goals. Victoria Hayes has 21 goals, Nina Siu has 19 and Kelly Kearnan 10. Siu leads the team with 23 assists. Goalie Shelby Arsenault has 103 saves while allowing 134 goals.
The Tornados lead the SAC in shots and are second in clears and free position goals.
Brevard leads the series 2-0. Last season in Harrogate, LMU had a 9-7 lead midway through the second half before Brevard scored four straight goals to take a late 11-9 lead. Moss scored with 4:36 left to cut it to 11-10 but the Lady Railsplitters were unable to pull out the win.
