HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU women's lacrosse team made history yet again as they won back-to-back games for the first time in the young program's history with the 16-7 rout of Ursuline Monday afternoon.
The Lady Railsplitters had a hat trick of hat tricks as
Zoe Zervos (Ithaca, N.Y.),
Casey Kelly (Ellenwood, Ga.) and
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Ga.) all scored three goals each. Kelly also had two assists, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and won four draw controls. Zervos dished out a pair of assists as well.
Kennedy Buechner (Stafford, Va.) and Rachel Berhnardt (Louisville, Ky.) had two goals apiece and
Heather Roache (Vero Beach, Fla.) and
Autumn Beddington (Newburgh, Ind.) each netted a goal.
Cydney Bartlett led the Arrows with three goals.
Kelly put LMU on the scoreboard with literally the first play of the game as she took the draw, ran straight at the goalie and scored her seventh goal of the season. Buechner, Roache and Bernhardt then added goals over the next 10 minutes.
Bartlett then found Hayley Mazreku open and Mazreku scored to cut the score to 4-1. A minute later Natalie Nowicki scored, forcing a LMU timeout. Coming out of the timeout Kelly fed the ball to Zervos, who scored her fourth goal of the season with 16:40 remaining.
After several minutes of back and forth action with no scoring, Bartlett scored a pair of goals to cut the lead to 5-4. After a Moss goal, Nowicki scored again, making the score 6-5 with 3:55 remaining. Buechner would score with 26 seconds left to give the Lady Railsplitters the 7-5 lead at the half.
LMU's defense came out in the second half and effectively shut down Ursuline, holding them to only a pair of goals. Kelly got things going with her second goal of the day with 23:40 left and Beddington, Click and Moss followed suit over the next 11 minutes.
Bartlett would break Ursuline's drought with the free position goal with 11:30 left in the game. Zervos then had a hand in both of LMU's next two goals, first by assisting Moss and then scoring one herself 23 seconds later. Maddie Kemp would get the Arrows' final goal at the 7:09 mark, and goals by Bernhardt, Zervos and Kelly would seal the deal on the 16-7 victory.
LMU improves to 2-2 on the season and will resume SAC play at Catawba on Saturday.
