Railsplitters crush Anderson 20-3 to move one step closer to SAC title

ANDERSON, S.C. – Lincoln Memorial moved one step closer to clinching its first regular-season South Atlantic Conference title as the Railsplitters (28-16, 17-5 SAC) set season highs of 20 runs and 22 hits in a 20-3 beating at Anderson (14-31, 8-14 SAC) Friday night.

The win extends Lincoln Memorial's win streak to nine games overall and eight in SAC play. The eight straight SAC wins set a program record, while the team last achieved a nine-game win streak in 2015. The Railsplitters' 17 SAC wins also set a program record for a season, and the team clinched its first ever top-two finish in the conference with the win.

Lincoln Memorial's offense remained on fire with its seventh straight game cracking double digits in runs. The Railsplitters have also exceeded double digits in hits eight times in their past nine contests.

All nine starting batters picked up at least one hit, and four collected at least three. Timmy Wages (Molin, Ill.) led the way with a 4-for-5 performance. Mason Ewers (Kingsport, Tenn.), Logan Augustine (Urbandale, Iowa) and Muta Crusoe (Bellwood, Ill.) added three hits apiece. Ewers drove in four runs, while Wages, Crusoe and Peyton Sawyer (Knoxville, Tenn.) each batted in three.

Ewers and Crusoe belted two-run shots, while Tyler Adams (Woodstock, Ga.) connected for his fourth home run in five games.

Brandon Jean (Franklin, Tenn.) received more than enough run support to win his sixth straight decision. The senior righty allowed just a single run in 7.1 innings and struck out nine. He finishes his regular season 7-3 and is unbeaten in his past seven starts heading into next weekend's SAC Championship.

The Railsplitters struck early and often and posted 15 runs and 18 hits through the first six innings.

Russell Clark (Wexford, Pa.) kicked off the scoring barrage with an RBI groundout in the first inning. Adams belted a solo shot in the second, and Ewers singled in another run in the frame. Crusoe singled in another run in the third.

Lincoln Memorial broke the game wide open with a five-run fourth. Ewers and Crusoe each hit their two-run homers in the frame, and Wages added an RBI double. Wages singled in two more runs in the next inning.

Anderson pushed across its only run off Jean in the bottom of the fifth on a Tyler Miller RBI double.

Lincoln Memorial's reserves put together a five-run rally in the eighth to push the Railsplitters to the 20-run threshold for the first time in 2017. Triston Campbell (Cumming, Ga.) and AJ Weed (Hendersonville, Tenn.) drove in runs, and Sawyer later laced a bases-loaded double that cleared the bases.

The Railsplitters and Trojans complete their regular seasons with a doubleheader Saturday. Lincoln Memorial clinches its first SAC regular-season title with a sweep or with some help from Brevard against Catawba.
