HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU women's lacrosse team will close out the 2017 season Saturday afternoon as they travel to Coker for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Cobras.
The Lady Railsplitters are currently in seventh place in the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 2-5 SAC record and are a game behind sixth-place Tusculum in the hunt for a berth in the six-team SAC Tournament. However, should LMU win and Tusculum lose on Saturday to end the regular season tied in the standings, the Pioneers would still receive the sixth-seed in the tournament due to their 15-14 win over LMU on March 29.
LMU is led by the duo of
Jasmin Click (Clermont, Fla.) and
Kennedy Buechner (Stafford, Va.), who both have 30 goals apiece. Click also has nine assists, 28 ground balls and 36 draw controls won on the season while Buechner has four assists, 26 ground balls and 12 draws won.
Casey Kelly (Ellenwood, Ga.) has 29 goals and leads the team with 15 assists and 45 draws won. She also has 37 ground balls, second only to goalie
Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.). Novak has 54 ground balls in addition to 138 saves on the season. The junior goalie ranks third in the SAC in saves and fourth in save percentage. Freshman
Zoe Zervos is fourth on the team in goals with 26 and has 29 ground balls.
LMU is ranked fourth in the SAC in shots, saves and caused turnovers and fifth in goals, goals per game and ground balls. Coker, who are in a three-way tie for second place in the SAC standings, leads the SAC in shots on goal and draw controls and are second in shots, goals per game and caused turnovers.
The Cobras are led by Haley McCusker, who is currently leading the SAC in goals with 63 goals. Faith Kent has 43 goals and a SAC-high 44 assists while Marabeth Durden is the team leader in draw controls won with 62. She also has 49 ground balls to lead the team.
