ROCK HILL, S.C. – The LMU men's tennis team saw their SAC Tournament title hopes end today as they fell to Wingate 5-2 in the tournament semifinals.

The Railsplitters took a 2-1 lead after doubles. They won at the No. 1 and No. 2 flights, while Wingate won at No. 3. LMU's Joshua Coulthard (Staindrop, England) and Jake Tuchmann (Kennesaw, Ga.) won at No. 1 over Daniel Belsito and Josh DuToit 8-4. At No. 2, Joshua Peress (Montreal, Quebec) and David Segarra (Sabadell, Spain) won 8-6 over Amir Zari and Tyler Schofer. Wingate's Duncan Addison and Theo Dessacs came from behind to pick up the 8-6 win at No. 3 over Pepe Batalla (Barcelona, Spain) and Xavier Marti (Tortosa, Spain).

In singles play, Wingate picked up wins at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5 to claim the 5-2 victory. At No. 1, Filippo Pezzoli defeated Coulthard 6-3, 6-2 to tie the match at 2-1. Marti then was bested 7-6, 6-0 by Belsito at No. 2 and Segarra lost his first dual match of the season as he fell to Zari 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.

Due to the tournament format, when a team reaches five points the match is halted. So after Wingate went ahead 5-2 with DuToit's 6-3, 7-5 win over Batalla at No. 4, the remaining flights featuring Peress and Moritz Hoerner (Erlangen Germany) were stopped.

LMU falls to 17-4 and now the team must wait to see if they earn an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Southeast Regional.
