Women's Lacrosse seeks to tame Lions in Saturday Senior Day matinee

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU women's lacrosse team will celebrated Senior Day this Saturday as they welcome Mount Saint Joseph to town for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest. Due to field conditions, the match will be played at the LMU Soccer Complex.

LMU is currently 4-8 overall and 2-5 in South Atlantic Conference play. They are led in scoring by Casey Kelly's 27 goals and 15 assists. Kelly also has 32 ground balls and has won 41 draw controls. Close behind Kelly is Jasmin Click with 26 goals and 28 draws won. Zoe Zervos has 21 goals and 22 ground balls on the season, while Kennedy Buechner has 18 goals and 22 ground balls. Amara Moss is on a tear after missing five games due to an injury and has 17 goals, 15 ground balls and has won 31 draw controls. Heather Roache also has 17 goals this season. Goalie Shannon Novak has 120 saves in cage.

As a team, the Lady Railsplitters are averaging 11.58 goals per game to their opponents' 13.0 gpg. They are shooting .421 with 77 percent of those being on goal. They have made 41 free position goals to opponent's 32 and have the advantage in caused turnovers and draws won. They are ranked third in the SAC in shots, shots on goal and caused turnovers.

The Lions come into Saturday's game with a 1-5 overall record and a 1-1 record in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The only common opponent the two schools have had this season is Ursuline, whom LMU defeated 16-7 and who defeated Mount Saint Joseph 18-6. Madie Long leads the Lions in scoring with 17 goals. Maria Sams and Anna Thorner have eight goals apiece. Kat Mapes is the main goalie and has 41 saves while giving up 60 goals. Molly Shea has 24 saves while giving up 23 goals.

The team will honor seniors McKenzie Edds and Mia Blyden prior to the start of the game. Edds, a three-year starter from nearby Maynardville, was LMU's first All-SAC performer as she earned Honorable Mention honors in LMU's first season of competition in 2015. She and goalie Shannon Novak are the only two players to start every game in the program's history. Edds is currently second in career caused turnovers with 35 and fifth in ground balls with 46. She scored her first career goal at Lee on March 20. Blyden joined the team midway through their inaugural season. She has played in 28 games thus far, scoring a goal at Lee on March 20. Blyden is tied for ninth in career caused turnovers with 11.

LMU will host Lees-McRae in the home finale next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and will close out the regular season next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Coker.
