HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Railsplitter tennis team improved to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in the South Atlantic Conference as they coasted to the 7-2 win over Newberry Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Complex.

The win keeps LMU in third place in the SAC standings behind Queens and Wingate. They are a game ahead of fourth-place Anderson.

The 14 wins are the most by a LMU men's tennis team since the 2012-13 season and the 7 SAC wins tie for second-most in a season since LMU joined the conference in 2006.

LMU swept the doubles to take a 3-0 lead. At No. 1 Joshua Coulthard (Staindrop, England) and Jake Tuchmann (Kennesaw, Ga.) defeated Edison Ambarzumjan/Jordan Monosky 8-5 while Joshua Peress (Montreal, Quebec) and David Segarra (Sabadell, Spain) won over Angel Pizarro and Nikhil Mannepalli 8-4 at No. 2. At No. 3 Xavier Marti (Tortosa, Spain) and Pepe Batalla (Barcelona, Spain) coasted to the 8-2 win over Richard Zeh and Logan Adkins.

In singles, Marti improved to 15-4 overall and 8-1 vs. the SAC as he coasted to the 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Jordan Monosky while Peress moved to 17-3 and 8-1 with his 6-1, 6-2 win over Nikhil Mannepalli at No. 3. Batalla went to 19-2 overall and 8-1 in SAC play with the 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 No. 4 flight win over Angel Pizarro. At No. 5, Segarra defeated Logan Adkins 8-6 to improve to 17-1 overall and 8-0 in the SAC.

LMU will host Anderson on Tuesday and Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday.
