HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Queens Royals (3-1-1, 1-1 SAC) scored three second-half goals to send the Lady Railsplitters (3-3, 0-2 SAC) to their third straight loss in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday at the LMU Soccer Complex.
The Royals' second-half outburst capped a dominant performance by the visitors, as Queens outshot Lincoln Memorial 20-5, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. It marked the first time that the Lady Railsplitters have been limited to just one shot on goal since a 0-0 draw against Anderson on September 29, 2012.
The Lady Railsplitters were right in the thick of it before the second half began, as Queens held a narrow 1-0 edge on the weight of Charlotte Ring's 35th-mintue goal.
However, Ring scored again in the 69th minute, while Alana Jefferson tallied in the 61st minute and Thea Mallett put the finishing touches on the Royals' win in the 85th minute to turn the match into a landslide.
Ring and Mallett both had more shots individually than the Lady Railsplitters had as a team. Ring scored two goals off of seven shots and two shots on goal, while Mallett had an assist and a goal on six shots and two shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Brooke Taylor had a day to forget, conceding four goals while making five saves. Queens' second goal of the match came after Taylor's pass was intercepted in the final third.
The Lady Railsplitters produced their only shot on goal in the 71st minute off an attempt by
Melissa Carpenter. However, Rachel Quest turned away that shot to post the clean sheet.
